Space Engineers - Frontier Defense Base & Channel Update

Показать описание
I haven't looked at defense much in the past so as a start I take a shot at a simple frontier base with redundancy and survivability being the primary goals.. Also wanted this to survive an assault from some of my own created weapons and steal an idea from the Death Lotus to see how it works defensively. Ended up talking for ages so the footage is a bit more drawn out than usual, sorry about that! Last of the 'busy week' episodes and starting Monday we're back on normal schedule :)

This video was created using games from Keen Software House.

Who wouldn't love doing this for a living?  One thing I particularly like about your videos are your time lapse bits, which nobody else currently does.  Love the channel, keep up the good work!

I love how you are playing space engineers like a space ENGINEER. You've inspired me to create more than just aesthetically pleasing designs. Love to see what you come up with next.

as long as you keep doing space engineers I'll stick around, other stuff is just icing to me

i felt today like typing in space engineers into my search bar on youtube (ive got a lot of subscriptions to channels that feature space engineers on a regular basis so i usually don't) and stumbled across your Space Engineers: Trident Shipyards v1 (WIP) video... ive been binge watching you video's ever since... during that watching spree i noticed you uploaded this video and your determination to making this channel better makes me believe that whatever content on whatever game you produce in these next months, will be worth my time... so you've gained me as a subscriber

Keep producing awesome stuff and we'll keep watching. I don't even play SE all that often, i have it, just not something im that into, but i love listening to how you solve problems, your thought process behind your decisions etc etc. Keeps me watching every video.

I'll be here for days and days to come i feel.

As many have said this before, your creativity is superb. Space Engineers and RimWorld are my favorites, but the FTL series are good and fun too. What I want to say is, just keep it up, we will watch everything you upload. Even if it's 5 min still of brick wall ;)

Ehm okay, I'm gonna remember to not mess with that... thingy... station.
But yeah, Airsoft? Of course yes. Would love to see you strategize IRL and fight...
FTL? That game... I tried it a couple of times and whoa, I found myself raging too much? The same thing kinda applies to RimWorld as well, but I love watching other people (especially you) play it.
So, you're planning a Q&A session? Well, here are mine:
-Science fiction or Fantasy ?
-Do you like the place in which you are currently living ?
-What kind of music (genre) do you enjoy the most?
-From which country are you?
Well, I'm hoping that this busy week of yours went as planned and that everything is good for you now. See ya in the next one.

I love your designs, so much more practical and realistic than another channel, Last Stand gamers or whatever they are who's designs though cool are so convoluted, and unreliable and overly complex. Yours are simple, and they do the job, well done!

One idea for making your base more robust against damage is to resort to small cargo containers.  Ore systems are largely automated, and they can also replace a lot of conveyor blocks.

In addition, since it is a base, you can separate components internally (no touching) and they won't go anywhere.  With connectors that can turn on and off at will, coupled with the new sorting blocks, you can lock away huge sectors of cargo storage that would otherwise clutter your view simply by turning off connectors to discrete grids.

Channel plans sound good! I always like the SE videos. Maybe do a survivor for it as a series along with other games. Since you want more content.

So much to comment on this video .. I'll try and be brief.

Firstly I quite liked the simplicity of the space station, and was quite surprised it survived the death lotus attack as well as it did, with only really minor damage on the first pass. I really liked the idea of the minefield, and only thought of a blinking light passageway through it as an improvement (activated for friendly ships of course).  I kinda also could see some other defensive methods for it, as well as flip-out turrets/launchers from inside the station, using some of the elements from your previous videos, but I might be over-egging there.

As for the other stuff you commented on towards the end of your video, I think (personally) you should do whatever you enjoy doing on your channel. While I think it's good to focus on a handful of games and not spreading yourself too thinly, I don't see any harm in varied content, even airsoft stuff. If it brings more diversity and flexibility to your channel, your audience, and keeps you on it like a car bonnet, then it seems like a win/win to me.

Two minor but important things .. as you might expect I will talk some more about stuff in one of our chin-wags at a later date, the comments in this reply are only my first thoughts, or those I'm choosing to share with the interwebs. Secondly, I am always on call if you require a pilot to test something, assuming I have the game you're making a video of .. you only need to contact me. I know you already know this, but I'm putting it out there, in your face.

And finally, I think most people who have followed you for a while know that you always produce good content, which is often very informative, funny, entertaining, and thought-provoking. As one of the regulars I'm happy to spread the word. I really hope you achieve your hopes for the channel, and I for one will do what I can to support you, and get your name passed around more often than Jeremy Clarkson's at a political correctness debate (in a positive light, ofc).

Anyway, I'll leave it there .. we will talk on this another time Cap'n. Great video as always mate :)

A note about the Death Lotus: it might be a better idea to substitute the reactors and timers for batteries. Then you just delay the firing a little and it switches itself off automatically. It might not be as fast-firing but it's a bit more efficient.

Viewer challenge, I mentioned it before, but i'll suggest it again. Would be awesome to see a grinding drone that can grind down a ship on its own. Like one of the many mining drones people have build.
Goals to achieve:
Must be able to grind 1 ship until it is gone.
Must be able to navigate to drop off point when full. ( to a connector or drop into a collector)
Must be able to return from set drop off to the ship it was grinding down.
Must be able to differentiate between the ship it is to grind down, and a friendly ship, ( so it can work without supervision, and you don't return to it and it has been grinding down the drop off point)

I got my Air Thief design basically working - It's small enough to fit in that hangar bay you made on that station.  There's multiple problems for that station though - it's so small you'd never sneak the ship up to it XD  The debris it makes would rip it apart anyway lol.  Still it might work on a larger ship with those hangar doors (They really made it easy on me with those :D) I wish they would add air tanks to small ships... :C

I always had this mad idea for medieval engineers, but too lazy to implement it - the trebuchet drawbridge - basically a bridge unconnected to a castle that when invaders cross it - pull lever and watch the invaders fly off into the sunset - again several inherent problems, hiding the mechanism being the foremost lol (My ideas are generally always that crazy XD)

I'm happy to watch whatever vids you make, I think I've went through most of what you have uploaded already too :D Sorry for the lengthy post XD

I'd like to see advanced airsoft play videos, and i would watch them too. My roommate and I both play airsoft whenever we can find people to play with and it's always tons of fun.

you should adjust the timers for survival build times
