THIS IS HOW I'VE LEARNED TO CRAFT MY BASS TONE over the last several years of being a part of Gable Price and Friends, Bethel Music, playing at church, and tracking for various songs and projects.
HERE IN PART 2 we take a look at how I process Bass "In the Box" with Plugins: EQ, Compression, etc.
IN PART 1, I talk through my approach to tone with the physical gear that I use -- my Bass, Strings, Picks, Pedals - ALL OF IT! There is method to the madness! (Spoiler: it involves a lot of fuzz).

That first bass riff immediately reminded me of OK Go's "The Writing's On the Wall" (which itself seems influenced by New Order).

Hey David, I’m in my starting phases of understanding bass tone so maybe a dumb question but why do you aim for so much fuzz/distortion? Is it so the bass punches through in the mix with the full band?
