This homeschool mom went to teach public school. And this homeschool mama quit teaching public school. So yes it’s just so Trish and I’m back. So I know it’s been a while and I haven’t been making as many videos but while teaching at the public middle school I didn’t have any time for my family or for Youtube. So I’m happy to be back. And I just wanna share with you some of the journey that I went through as a homeschool mom teaching at the public school.

I feel like this is what I needed to hear, years later. It's a right message at the right time situation. I was always playing "keeping up with the Joneses" with the public school system during the first 6 years of homeschool. I was constantly in a state of anxiety about being behind, until I started subbing in the public school system and realized that my kids were generally ahead due to constant interruptions and disruptions in the classroom. I also had my first experience with common core math curriculum and so many kids were lost despite learning it for years. I got in trouble for teaching some kids short cuts and explaining things in a different way. My kids have learning disabilities and sometimes they just need to have things explained differently. Sometimes they need a shortcut because doing things the long and complicated way is too overwhelming. Also, the reading intervention curriculum was garbage and didn't address dyslexia, only kids that we're behind for other reasons. I am finishing up my teaching program, but only because I put so much time and money into it. I want nothing to do with teaching in a public school anymore even though I love being in the classroom. The stress and frustration on my health and family isn't worth it, especially since my ADD brain drains my energy more in that situation than most people.

Trish, thank you for sharing! God is using your experience to help others like me! This video is encouragement to keep my kids homeschooled. Thank you!

As a former public elementary school teacher, I learned the same lesson, giving all you had to your students but having nothing left, hardly even leftovers, for your own children. Unfortunately it took me becoming very ill, working even though I was sick for months, until I was hospitalized with an unknown diagnosis. Then my oldest, at 10 years old, unexpectedly died. I felt guilty quitting, but my health and my family were more important. We then took my other daughter out of school and started home educating, back in 2001. We have added 3 sons to the mix and have never regretted home educating and quitting the herd. We do a lot of life learning and have the freedom to explore interests. Welcome home Trish!!

I am a 58 yr old grandmother of 1 -15 yr old with Autism, and long story but I have adopted at birth a about to be six yr old. The 15 yr old has went to school until this year, I have taken the leap to homeschool. I have seen the system way long enough and it isn't working. I told God that I would take on this but I will need Him every step of the way. Praying my way into each day. I have no idea which way to go but I know, I know what's best for my family and we will get this done with the Father leading us. He has sent me to some amazing people. Blessings and prayers to you sister. Breath and give it to God and He will !

We are doing Robinson style, adding in Apologia and Notgrass history in upper grades, and making homemade missed spelling lists. Super simple.

I’m a public school and am feeling exactly the same. I have no time for my own family. I’m praying God will make a way for me to stay home. I love teaching and want to give my own kids a better education

I'm so sorry it was stressful. That's hard. May you be lead beside still waters and your soul restored. Love you, friend. Wish I held answers but everyone is different and you gave to find what works even if it takes forever to find out

I feel like you did a while back. Feel burned out and a failure. I just feel like dumping what we are doing and trying something else, but what? He's doing great in everything but math and writing. What program are you using now? Is it working? Mine is in eighth grade and high school is scaring me.

Hi Trish, just a million questions for you for another video! Out of all of the curriculums and methods of education you have tried, which ones would you go back to if you had to do it all again from the beginning? Which ones worked best for you as a parent and which ones worked best for the kids? Which ones were more fun and which ones got the job done? Now that you've been in the school system and seen it first hand does it make you realise what a good job you were doing? Do you think the kids are 'turning out' the way you hoped? Would it have been different in public school? Do you think there is anything that can be done to prevent burnout or is it just a part of the process? As home school parents we are able to change curriculum as often as we like. Some people think this is a bad thing. Did you find that public schools change their curriculum alot too? Is that driven by the kids needs or some other reason. Did your kids make friends at school and are these friendships different to the kids they have met through other places? Do you find that your kids start to 'get' things at different ages e.g maths? Do you feel that being at home has helped with your health or made it worse? What are some ways that you are able to get a break when kids are home all of the time? Any reflections on what you learned from Andrea Mills over the years? I am still sad that she is gone and I still go to her videos for mentoring. Looking forward how would you like your life to look and feel? Are you enjoying your new home? What are the dynamics like with older kids? Is it mentally harder with younger kids or older kids? Do you have any systems you plan to add in to make your days more relaxing? What curriculum do you think you will use next year? OK I think that's enough harassing you for one day! Plenty more questions in my head for 😘

Who cares about the grade? Did they learn anything? I love it! Those are my feelings too. Glad to see you home, and enjoying LIFE in the goat pasture. ❤️

Hi Trish. I teach public school online and homeschool my kids. You are right that teaching sucks up all your time.
