Ambassador Kennedy and Son Jack Recreate JFK's PT-109 Swim

Eighty years ago, President Kennedy swam between Plum Pudding Island (now Kennedy Island), Naru Island, and Olasana Island — multiple times, at night — to save himself and his PT-109 crew.

While in Solomon Islands, Ambassador Kennedy and her son, Jack, recreated the swim to commemorate the heroism and perseverance of the President and his crew.

It’s amazing to this day what LT Kennedy was able to do! Injured himself, shark AND Japanese waters…Thank goodness he grew-up boating and swimming! I think it would have gone a lot differently were it not for LT Kennedy’s athleticism, leadership ability and sheer stubbornness in not giving up on himself or his fellow sailors…
