A Doctor Tried to Resurrect George Washington From the Dead

When George Washington died on December 14, 1799, the nation mourned the loss of its first President and the heroic general of the American Revolution, but one man didn't accept the President’s death. Instead of waiting for a divine presidential resurrection, Dr. William Thornton came up with his own plan to bring George Washington back to life.

I can’t imagine why the patient would have difficulty recovering after having had 40% of it’s blood removed. 🤨

Well, I’m just amazed at how close Thornton was to what would have been necessary. Air and blood. He just didn’t understand how to put it together and the short timeline. Oxygen, ventilation, circulation...but all provided as close to the time of death as possible. Every minute that passes GREATLY reduces the chances for success. He was very close to figuring out the basics of what would become CPR.
