The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric arrives with a bold new look and improved capabilities, marking the second generation of this compact EV crossover. Hyundai has taken an already solid offering and enhanced it with more space, better range, and a striking design that's sure to turn heads on the road.
At first glance, the new Kona Electric is a visual departure from its predecessor. The front fascia features a distinctive pixel-inspired LED lighting signature that gives the EV a futuristic, almost cyberpunk aesthetic. The more powerful variant managed a 0-60 mph time of 7.0 seconds. While not neck-snapping, it provides adequate pep for daily driving. The Kona Electric prioritizes comfort over sportiness, with a smooth ride and quiet cabin that make it an excellent urban commuter.

Charging capabilities are decent, with Hyundai claiming a 10-80% charge time of 43 minutes using DC fast charging. For home charging, an onboard 10.8-kW charger is standard.
The Kona Electric doesn't skimp on tech, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Safety features are comprehensive, including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control across all trims.
Pricing starts at a competitive $34,070 for the base SE trim, topping out at $42,440 for the fully-loaded Limited. The mid-range SEL, starting at $38,070, offers a sweet spot of features and value, including the larger battery pack and more powerful motor.

While the Kona Electric may not match the performance or cutting-edge tech of some premium EV crossovers, it strikes an appealing balance of style, practicality, and affordability. The improved range, more spacious interior, and distinctive design make it a compelling option in the compact EV segment.
Hyundai's excellent warranty coverage adds to the Kona Electric's value proposition, with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain and battery warranty providing peace of mind for EV adopters.
