Growing peas in containers is a rewarding endeavor, perfect for gardeners with limited space. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you cultivate healthy container peas:

Choosing the Right Container: Select a container at least 30 cm (12 inches) deep with good drainage holes. A window box, bucket, or any large pot will work.

Soil Preparation: Use a high-quality potting mix enriched with compost. Peas prefer loose, well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5.

Selecting Pea Varieties: Opt for dwarf or bush pea varieties, as they are better suited for containers. Popular choices include Tom Thumb, Sugar Ann, or Little Marvel.

Planting: Sow seeds 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep and about 5 cm (2 inches) apart. You can plant them in early spring or late summer for cool-weather growth.

Watering and Care: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the container when the topsoil feels dry to the touch.

Providing Support: Peas are climbers, so install a small trellis, bamboo stakes, or even a makeshift frame for the vines to climb.

Sunlight: Place the container in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Feeding: Since peas are nitrogen-fixing plants, they require minimal fertilization. However, a light application of a balanced fertilizer can boost growth.

Harvesting: Depending on the variety, peas are typically ready to harvest 60–70 days after planting. Pick regularly to encourage continuous production.

Growing peas in containers is not only easy but also offers the joy of fresh, homegrown produce right at your doorstep! Happy gardening! 🌱

I tasted pea shoots for the first time today from some I started in January, and they are delicious 😋 looking forward to seeing how your carrots do. They're looking very healthy. Good info, as always.

Timely video! Local deer got my pea plants overnight. Just had to sow more. I had been planting 1 pea per cell. Won't be doing that anymore. Thanks for another great video.

Thanks Ivan, peas and carrots are great but in the mean time pea shoots and carrot tops in salads are brilliant and very healthy food. Take care and all the best. Stevie

I like to do them this way also. The only difference is I like to not let the peas touch each other so the roots can start off separate.

I like to do this too. The only difference is I don’t put all the peas on top of each other. I spread them out in the cup so they can start off with the roots, not touching each other. They seem to do well that way

Ivan, regarding the carrots, I thought once sown they didn’t like their roots being disturbed as in transplanting into containers…
