FYI the pans in both palettes are magnetic, so you could customize your perfect palette if you have both.

You should do an overview of everything you've tried from the brand...like, what worked for you and what didn't. Tarte has so many things that I want to try.

Ok, total theory. But I bet Tarte thought the Clay Play 1 was going to be HUGE. And they sold a CRAPLOAD of them to Ulta and Sephora and then it didn’t sell. So Ulta and Sephora are concerned, put the first version for sale at 50% off to get rid of inventory and basically negotiate with Tarte to do something with the rest of the order. So Tarte, who hasn’t actually pressed all of the palettes yet, goes back, changes out a few shades based on which pigments they have in inventory, calls it Clay Play 2 and slam out a slightly new palette to both retailers hoping to use up the rest of their packaging and get some new sales.

Very good review! Tarte is one of my favorite brands. I have the Clay Play 1 and really enjoy it. I think I got mine on sale direct from their website. I will be passing on the CP 2. I'm interested in any reviews you do on Tarte products. I have a few of the smaller eyeshadow palettes and have bought a few for gifts as well, when they're on sale. I find their packaging quite intriguing.

Thank you for your honest opinion. Tarte as a brand is really hard to purchase in Europe. I would have to order from the US without ever seeing their products in person. So I am really interested in a brand review. Maybe a “best/worst products.
