I was diagnosed with copd stage 4 over 5 years ago. After my last exacerbation it has gone backwards after a good time of stability…
I supplement myself very well and do cardio and strength fitness twice a week.
I quit smoking 7 years ago. Also have asthma and have had lung cancer.
It isn’t easy, but will have to go on. No oxygen yet. I don’t want it. Walking is very hard, but with my mobile scooter I go out with my pointer and spaniel/husky and have a lot of fun with them. Thats what keeps me going ❤

I was diagnosed with copd when I was 38, I’m 62 now and because of Covid my lungs took a hit, for the first time in my life I have been on oxygen, but I still fight the good fight, I go to lung rehab and I walk a mile every other day with my oxygen… I am slowly getting better … by the grace of God …

I'm 69 and I've had COPD for 9 years. I recently had a chest infection and as a result I have taken up weight-lifting again. Yes, weight lifting. At 69. With COPD. I take my dog for 3 long walks every day, don't smoke, have a very healthy diet and do quite a lot of hoovering. All of these things help.

Over 10 years ago my wife was involved in a nearly fatal car accident. As a result she lost 40% of her left lung capacity. She also was diagnosed asthmatic as a child and hospitalized several times growing up. As an adult she used an inhaler daily and also had a "next step" inhaler incase the main one wasn't enough. She has had trouble walking up more than one flight of stairs or walking more than a few minutes. Well, I began Keto to reduce my chronic pain from an autoimmune disease, and after she saw how it improved my health she began Keto to lose weight. Well she did lose 50 lbs in 4 months, but better than that, she is off all her medications and has no need for her inhaler. Since her car accident she has had annual lung function test and every year it was going down. Well this year she had her test and when she saw her respirologist he was amazed and confused that her lung function had IMPROVED by 16%. She is now walking several miles a day with me and is so happy shopping for new clothes.

I am very ill with COPD. I quit smoking 13 days ago! Started smoking when I was 14. I am 56 now. I hope this will help me breathe better.

Dr Berry, this video could be life changing to me…I was diagnosed w stage 3 copd 2.5 years ago. I started PT right away. I quit after a year… I didn’t realize how important this is to my body, until I listened to this. I’ve been home doing nothing, honestly. I am on oxygen when exerting. Staying home doing nothing has made me weak. Walking from bedroom to kitchen makes me breathless. I NEED TO RETURN TO PT, if they’ll have me. By not moving Im making my lungs weaker, like you said, then I do less than nothing. Thank you! I hope I call today to start up the first of the year again. It’s very hard for me to go mentally. I don’t leave the house. I’ve Never smoked and I’m 62. Thank you. I’ll call right now.

Yes. Believe you can fight it! I was diagnosed [brutally] at age 24 with huge upper lobe bullae in both lungs with many smaller throughout the lower lobes [not anti-trypsin deficient either] and I turn 55 this year. That's over 30 years..Sure it's getting pretty hard these days but I'm still not on oxygen. Best tips: Ditch the cigs if you do smoke. Walk as much as possible if you can - even if it hurts. And learn to use your diaphragm..breath in to the count of 4 and out to the count of 8 [or 2 in 4 out - whatever you can manage but always double the amount in exhalation. Use that auxiliary breathing muscle and try to get into the habit of breathing into your abdomen and out with your diaphragm..] Meditate and forget the 3-5 year prognosis. Hope this helps someone. I waa diagnosed with Asthma in 2010 at age 43 and then with Emphasima a year later. I've suffered badly and have been hospitalized 8×'s a year, sometimes 2 week's at a time and high doses of Prednisone 150 mgs IV 3 x's a day and was sent home with a month long taper of Prednisone. Oddly enough, my last breathing test, like you described, they were questioning if I even had it anymore or ever had it? The only thing that I can say, because I haven't changed anything, including smoking, is I have faith in Jesus Christ alone and was standing on His Word for a full recovery!! 💯!! Thank you Jesus! All glory be to him!!!

Information well received. I've never smoked nor used "recreational drugs". I'm a lifetime bodybuilder who once weighed 312 pounds and bench pressed 540 pounds. And yet, I've been diagnosed with copd. Asthma nearly killed me as a child. During my youth and middle age I'd licked the condition. But now that I'm in my late 60s it's returned. Not a welcomed homecoming. Nevertheless I still strive to workout almost daily and at 69, with copd, I can incline bench press 415. Never give up! Never surrender!

At 16 I had asthma, bronchitis, lung spasms and a lung infection all from 2nd hand smoke. My doctor was going to call it emphysema too but I found a way to get better. Any of the drugs made me way to hyper and still sick so I just quit and got completely away from smoke, even things that remotely smelled like smoke. I started riding a bike. 5 years later, I worked up to joining a bike racing team, biking 50 to 100 miles a day, swimming 1 mile a day and walking 15 a day. I was still short of breath but constantly pushed it to the limit all day every day -never a day off! I was invited to join the US Olympic team. Knowing my lungs I refused, I had already won something much better. Going from living in an oxygen tent looking at death to scoring 68 on the lung function test. Now happily looking toward 60 and sometimes doctors tell me my lungs are normal to slight obstruction maybe! Fight every day for yourself. Clean country air, simple real food, increase heart rate and expand those lungs!

1. Get tested with a pulmonary function test. Talk to Dr and get the test ordered.
2. Exercise-start our slowly
3. Eat omega 3 or take a supplement
4. Take vitamin D3. 2K-3K IU daily
5. Remove the crap out of your diet.
6. Stop smoking or even being around other smokers

For the record, MedCram highlighted a recent study that showed vitamin D reduced the chances of getting a chest infection by 50% while it also reduces the chances of pneumonia by 70%.
I think this is reason enough to take vitamin D - especially through the winter season.

I have stop smoking for 30 days after 35 years of smoking with moderate COPD - I WILL NOT DIE FROM THIS AWFUL ADDICTION -- I feel so much better :)

I have copd and was fine till I had covid injection there were no warnings of respiratory issues until afterwards. No one was held accountable now we copd patients are working extra hard .But thanks to people like you we are still breathing because of the exercises you show us.thank you.

Smokers stop now. I have copd. Cuts your life and interests short. People and family know about me struggling but they continue to light up, wasting life and money. NO SECOND SMOKE...KILLS AS WELL.

My husband got diagnosed with emphysema at 39 :( he's 43 now and thank God he did quit smoking he's better but still tired and unable to live 100 percent the way he wants to. But we are thankful and blessed

Dr Berg, I had bouts of shortness of breath as a boy. This evolved into bronchitis, later termed chronic bronchitis and by my mid twenties chronic asthmatic bronchitis. I fought the problem by running or swimming regularly. Nevertheless it worsened by the time I was in my mid thirties and then it was termed asthma. Almost hopeless I turned to Hatha Yoga and found after a year that practising 45 minutes of yoga daily let me live a near normal life.
Things again started worsening by the time I was 70 even hatha yoga supplemented by inhalers didn't permit normal breathing. In despair I consulted a specialist pulmonologist. He put me through a lung function test and the results showed that I had COPD. The doctor prescribed newer more advanced inhalers.
However I was now fed up with this constantly evolving problem. I started exploring Pranayama, specifically the type termed Anuloma - Viloma. It improved matters and I was able to stop all inhalers, my hatha yoga and concentrate on pranayama alone for fifteen minutes a day. It worked and at 76 I am able to maintain normal activity without inhalers. I am not however cycle fast or run as I quickly get breathless. But normal sedentary lifestyle including negotiating a few flights of steps is no problem

Hi love your video. I have COPD I stopped smoking in 2006 before I was diagnosed. I after I managed to stop smoking I couldn't breath properly and I couldn't stand the smell of cigarettes . I don't know how people with COPD can smoke. When I smell smoke it starts me coughing and can't get my breath. I feel for people who know they should stop but can't, I remember what that was like. I was enabled to stop smoking by using the vapes, also giving up this habit starts in the head . You have to think about your heart snd what you are doing to it and your lungs . Try to think of those organs as your best friends and how badly you are treating them. That helped me really want to stop that awful habit.
