"I'll return it at the first opportunity"

1, 500 Years Later...

he carried that in his pocket through 10 seperate incarnations, just held on to it that whole time, just in case, didn't even pop it in a drawer in the tardis or something, right in his pocket, so he could have it the second he needed it again. That is such a bizarre thing to have done, I love it.

That man has not worn the same pants for nine or so regenerations, so he has transferred it to a new pair of pants on several occasions. He’s really decided to keep it all those times.

This is what happens when your show runners and writers are true fans.

The high council: This seal will prove your innocence to The Doctor
The Doctor (immediately): No.

I always found it interesting that there might be a bit of symbolism to this reference. In The Five Doctors, the Master is being offered a whole new regeneration cycle since he was at the end of his first one. In Time of the Doctor, the Doctor is in a similar situation and the Time Lords grant him a new cycle.

It cannot be easy to keep 60 years of continuity straight. Especially when they can get away with writing off a mistake as “wibbly wobbly”

Would have been hilarious if he went "Huh, guess he was telling the truth" after that lol.

Dude got lots of opportunities between this and the Time War and he still didn't gave it to them lol

People really forget that he’s a time lord, so it’s likely he just stitches bigger on the inside crap to his pockets and it being a separate dimension means he can stitch the same dimension over and over again. Literally a bag of holding

True Doctor canon material right there. This is why we need people who know Doctor Who forwards and backwards so that such continuity can be upheld for future episodes.

The Doctor’s complete distrust of The Master and the fact he held onto the seal despite promising to return it is so in character

Okay, that's incredible continuity.

Huh that’s neat, never noticed that reference. Then again, it’s been a few years since I saw either story.

I loved this and I've been waiting for someone to edit this.

I'm just now realising Matt Smith is one of only four Doctors (the others being Christopher Eccleston, John Hurt and the Fugitive Doctor) who have never faced the Master on-screen, and that makes me sad.

(Okay I guess William Hartnell had died and been recast by the time his incarnation met the Master on-screen, but my point still stands)

Wow. That really *is* a deep call-back. Missed it back in the day.

A headcanon I saw somewhere (that makes a lot of sense) is that the Doctor kept it safe somewhere (as opposed to carrying it around for 9 regenerations) and when Gallifrey was mentioned earlier in the episode he just found it again just in case it came in useful.

A lot of people are taking about how it makes no sense for the doctor to keep it, but think about it. It's probably the only piece of time lord that he has apart from the tardis.
