I wanted to see what I had commented on the original video before I left a comment (so as not to repeat myself lol) and I was kind of shocked by my comment on that video. It was 9 months ago and I was freaking out about being 144 lbs. Well now I'm 141 lbs (some days as low as 134, and my high was 146) and I still freak out about it. Some things never change lol!!!!

So ANYWAY, some things I wish I had known before I had VSG!

- It isn't actually a death knell for marriage. I have heard so many times that marriages never survive one spouse getting WLS. I'm still happily married and I would say my marriage is actually better now because I am much more independent, I contribute a lot more, and I am more social, so my husband doesn't have to hand-hold me the way he did when I was obese and kind of self-isolating. It's much more of an equal partnership than it used to be.

- While the fear of regain does NOT go away, the body actually does achieve a new low set point, meaning that as long as you do what you're supposed to (eat healthy and exercise regularly), your body does a homeostasis thingamajig at your new low weight and you're cool. Do the healthy eating and exercising though because that's what keeps it there.

- Loose skin improves with time. Don't panic. I had pretty much accepted at the end of year 3 that it was going to be like that, but now in year 4 it's actually way better. Don't ask me how, I don't know.

- The incision for the drain, which they do not stitch closed, will actually close by itself. My husband makes fun of me to this day because I spent an entire two weeks convinced that I would have "a permanent hole in my side" from where the surgical drain was. The scars from the surgery itself may not go away completely. Mine haven't. My laparoscopy scars from gall bladder removal are invisible but VSG are visible. It's not a big deal though.

- The hiccups I used to get if I ate too much/too fast still happen but don't hurt nearly as bad and don't last nearly as long. I still have restriction 4 years later, but it's not anywhere like it used to be. And we all learn how to get around it when we want to, which is naughty, but true.

I just watch all your videos on this playlist it took 2 weeks to do so.

Thank you for all the information you provided.

I was very lucky that my insurance is covering this surgery. But I am in the beginning stages before they even schedule the surgery. My insurance requires so much prior to it and that is what i am working on.

I was very indecisive to even go through with it but after watching your journey I believe I will.

You look amazing keep up the good work .

Love the video! It is an interesting mental journey. My boss calls me tiny, but I don't see it either. I agree with going out to eat, I tell my husband the same thing. It doesn't matter where we go, I don't eat much enough to really care where we go. Lol.

Agree about it is hard to see the "new me". Many times I see the "old me", even if I know I now wear L (sometimes even M) instead of 3-4XL... And I am soon 10 months postop.
But I know I eat bigger portions than some, but I got a very tough job and need that. And I do stop eat when I had enough.
Sadly I also got some favorites I no longer can eat. Either my belly very fast signal that isn't good or the things are too sweet, so it don't taste good at all.
Thanks for the video!
Stay safe Lovely ❤️

Next week I have my pre-surgery appointment and I assume I'll be told my actual surgery date... I'm very nervous but trying to stay positive and think of how happier I'll be 6 months/ a year from now (hopefully if everything goes well.) Throwing up is my #1 fear! lol so im going to try really hard to avoid that the best I can. You said you don't handle pasta/rice very well, can i ask, is it any kind of pasta and any kind of rice? i know there are plant based pastas out there, idk if that would make a difference. And I LOVE rice so im curious to know what type of rice made your tummy upset
