Doc, this actually has to be one of your best videos! And I was already a fan! Every cat owner should hear this! You touch on just what they need to know. If people understood it’s the nutrients that will affect their cats health, not the ingredients, we would see less urinary issues and renal cases! Just to add my 2 cents, you’re always so nice! The reason a good is excessive in minerals is always the same. They don’t add those minerals. They are from the meat sources. High mineral content means cheap meat sources, with either bone, hair, hoof, feathers, etc. you can’t hide from your calcium and phosphorus! But no one knows to look. Keep up the great work! Nice hat!

I fed Orijen to my cats and dogs for years. The whole life of some of my animals. Really wish I had found your channel much sooner, but for the sake of the health of my pets I'm really glad I have now!

There's possibly even more misinformation about animal food on youtube than there is for people food. I ended up on your channel because I got frustrated by the inconsistencies and unsubstantiated health claims from the various channels touting homemade dog food as a panacea. I tried it for a while, was not happy with my dogs stool (and the logic of it - I don't have industrial mixers to ensure every meal is consistent..), their energy levels. I'm ashamed I fell for the woo woo nonsense as long as I did but I'm glad you've provided the tools to approach the subject from a science, evidence based perspective.

Anyways, TL:DR you do honestly good work here which is probably improving the lives of thousands of animals all over the world. I hope you managed to have some actual vacation time on this vacation! 😎Thank you!

I used to feed my cats orijen as I only looked at ingredients and thought it looked like a really decent food. I had no clue about the guaranteed analysis so thank you for educating me on that. Cats are now on a much more appropriate food for their life stage.
I would love for you to review Fancy Feast wet food, in particular the value pack I buy at Costco. It includes the following flavours:
Grilled chicken in gravy
Salmon pate
Ocean whitefish & tuna feast pate

Very useful review, I didn't know about the calcium and phosphate contain that has so much negative effect to cats, thanks!
It is also worth noting Orijen have opened up another factory in US, which seems using slight different source of ingredients for their recipes. The quality of the Orijen from Canada and US seems to different base on some of the reviews.

I brought Orijen as I heard good things about it and also I want to get my cat to eat less Ziwi coz it seems contain too much fats and a bit too expensive.
Then I ended up feeding him mixture of both Ziwi and Orijen, with occasionally Almo Nature Complete Can food for calories control. So far he seems like Orijen more and completely ignores certain flavors of Ziwi now....
What is your opinion on cat food with high fat content? I have heard some mixed good and bad opinions and wasn't exactly sure...

Excellent video! i’ve been feeding this to my cats for a couple of years and might consider changing it to something more appropriate. I also read that a fish based diet isn’t ideal for cats, is there truth to that? one of my cats is allergic to chicken, what protein would you suggest to go with?

I feed this food for 2 years and my cat that was 4 got diagnosed with renal failure. Could this food caused it?

Grain free is only bad bc they add other things in that aren't good like legumes and other things.... it's not the absence of gains that's causing any issues. Get informed before spewing info
