What is the best picture profile to use on your Sony A7SIII, FX III, A7IV or any other Sony camera with a 10 bit codec?
Is SLog 3 the best picture profile or is SCinetone the best picture profile? Or should you skip using a picture profile and set the camera to PP-Off (no picture profile?
I think SLog 3 is the best picture profile for Sony cameras. And in this video, i will show you why.

Slog in fact is a sales gimmick.Maybe only for perfectly controlled conditions with raw records. For 99% of the time it is an impractical profile making any benefits insignificant compared to cine4 or s-cinetone.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I'm no color grading expert and I think color grading is much more than just cranking up the levels and contrast, I would say for my needs, S-Cine outdoors and no PP indoors does the trick. Slog3 or Slog2 surely is something one could play around with countless hours, but I think it all depends on the project, the need etc.
Keep up the good work mate.

PP off looks the best. S Log 3 worst. At least in these examples.

Are you allowed by the company, to imitate the S Cinetone, by manually changing settings for A7R 4? Can you tell, if you have experimented?

Yes the colors look good on the A7SIII without a Picture Profile; however, it is limited to 8 bit color. If one were to want to use the full capabilities of the A7SIII such as 10 bit color, it is required that they shoot in a Picture Profile that utilizes the 10 bit color such as SLOG3 or HLG3. This can be super important when it comes to uploading an HDR video to YouTube for example. Just saying why No PP is a bad idea.

The test was not ideal because you did it in the snow, the skintones are then usually well lit everywhere, even in the shade due to the reflection of the snow on the ground. You can barely see a difference in DR because of the snow. Otherwise great video 👍

Thank you for the amazing comparison. May I know what lens did you use in the handheld shots in the snow @ 2:26 ?? 🙏

Hey. What picture profile is better for an indoor studio recording podcast? Does S cinetone works and we need to directly shoot in a standard profile?

Great video. Do you know how many stops of dynamic range the "no profile picture" setting has?
