I’ve gotten the opposite. When I actually wanted my hair short, they always kept it much longer than I’d like which was super annoying. I’d have to actually pester them to do it shorter.

I'm a (not currently working as but trained) hairstylist and I hate to say it, but im sworn off hairstylists, you really do roll the dice out there, I just do it myself now, maybe not as precise as a good hairstylist could get it, but who's to say the next stylist I see will be good? And it's free and I'm in control when I do it.

My sister showed at my place last summer with a video and sheers. She demanded I cut her hair (I’m a teacher). After memorizing the video I took the scissors and just cut! She was very happy with the results. I cut my own hair right after and LOVED it. Now my sister saw a video on how to balayage and wants me to do it! I guess I’m coloring her hair now. Next weekend I’m going to her place to cut and color her hair. My mom and other sister want me to do their hair as well. They have so much faith in my abilities. I fixed their internet once, edited my younger sister’s thesis for her PhD, made personalized pencil cases for all of my older sister’s employees one Christmas, installed a ceiling fan in their place, among other things. To be honest, they are super helpful as well. They have helped me raise my kid to the point my daughter says she has 4 moms. Her teacher must think I’m a kinky lesbian or something!

Ohh its the same for me. My hair is high or medium porosity and wavy/with loose curls when taken care od properly. But hairstylists would always blow dry it and cut it like it's straight. I have been cutting ny own hair for almost 15 years.

Same here...
I had so many bad experiences that I simply lost the motivation. Luckily my hair is pretty wavy and thick which conceals my not professional work of cutting my own hair.

Omg the same stuff happens to me too when I go to the salon! When I asked for a pixie I got a modified Karen cut and when I asked for something razored (I showed a pic) I got some choppy blunt mess of thick layers 😅

But girl, if you cut your split ends like that, or with that normal scissors, you will have more split ends and worse. So I suggest you to try it with hairdressing scissors. :)) ❤

for the most part i also just do my own hair at home. i dont have much against hair stylists/barbers, i just like the cost i save from going to a professional. plus, as long as im happy with how i do my hair nothing else really matters to me.

I bought hair shears too after trying to grow my hair out and getting the worst haircut. It was so bad that it wouldn't grow after bc she used dull thinning shears which I asked her not to use

$200 for a trim is RIDICULOUS! I have long blonde hair! I got 10-12” cut off recently! She brushed it out, brushed it down my back as I stood and cut straight across. Took maybe 5 mins to clean the edges and done. Perfect. She’s been cutting it that way for 10 years. $35 ❤ She charges $160 to the lady who’s in her chair for 2 hours. Me? 20 minutes. That’s called Integrity! She’s also so popular She’s not taken on new clients for the last 4 years! People love her!
$200 for a trim should be illegal! Good on you for refusing to continuing that crap!
