The chickens they use have dramatically shrunk in the past 20 years or more. Right now the birds are somewhere between 1/2 to 2/3 the size of what they used 40 years ago, which is why a bucket usually seems half full when you get it. To make up for it they offer more side dishes with your meal, which cost a lot less to provide.

Nice to heard those interesting stories!

The "secret recipe" hasn't been much of a secret for several decades. Any food lab in the world can tell you what it is, and it's changed several times over the years (and not for the better).

Arlon was a Kentucky Colonel, an honorary title bestowed on him by the Governor of Kentucky. It's given to individuals who make notable contributions to the state. He never claimed to be any other type of colonel.

I got to meet Colonel Sanders in the late 60s when I was 8 or 9 on Santa Catalina Island in Southern California (as the song goes, 26 miles across the sea.) KFC had just opened a store there and he was there for promotion. I at that age thought it quite exciting and can still remember it quite exactly. PS I think the KFC extra-crispy is very good, not a fan of the mashed potatoes or gravy, biscuits not bad.

I worked in a poultry plant back in the day and they had a specialize machine to cut for KFC. Most chicken is an 8 piece cut, 2 breast, 2 wings, 2 legs and 2 thighs. KFC had to be different and have a 9 piece cut. Their breasts were a 3 way cut back then, 2 rib cuts and a keel, which is the bottom part of the breast that holds most of the tenders part of the breast.
When Chicken Unlimited (now defunct) came on the scene, they would claim in their ads that their breast pieces were bigger than KFC's. This started hurting KFC's sales and they soon changed to the 8 piece cut. That was a big hit on all the poultry plants that had invested in the specialize cutting machine to provide KFC's needs. It also shows how big of a market KFC had that the plants would invest in those cutting machines.

they should bring back the original 11 herbs and spices not the stuff they serve now.

Sanders was a Kentucky Colonel. This is an honorary title bestowed by the state. Pretty routine, if a bit weird.

Not all KFCs are created equally. Philippine KFCs are among the worst. Very inconsistent quality, bad chicken, unpalatable, too salty. Taiwanese KFCs are probably among the best in the world. Only the best quality fresh chickens. Every cut is equally portioned, generous serving, consistently and properly seasoned, no overly used oil taste, always tastes fresh and crispy, never soggy, always properly timed to serve fresh, finger licking good. Simply the best. Sigh.

I no longer eat KFC, my grandma made the best fried chicken, not only did they fry it in a cast iron skillet and being from southern Indiana they fried there chicken in lard. Also Banquet used to have pretty good fried chicken for being in the freezer case. Growing up when, we were kids we liked going to the local parks every chance we got during the summer, so, that’s always what we wanted to do when mom had the day off of work. So, are favorite food of choice to take to the park was cold fried chicken and mom’s homemade lemonade. So, the night before she’d cook a box of banquet fried chicken and cook it the night beforehand. Even fried chicken is pretty darn tasty when, it’s cold. Sad today that some our food doesn’t taste like it used to and, has too many generically filled chemicals and colors and, a lot of these foods aren’t fit to eat.

I heard the fried mouse story over 50 years ago. I would love the type of cuisine that KFC serves, but because of that story I will never set foot in one! 🤮
