It Finally Happened... (I got Scammed)

Thailand scams are maybe the most frequent content I see on YouTube in the Thailand sphere. And to be honest after 2 years living in Thailand, I thought everyone was just making this stuff up. Well, now I know because I myself fell victim to a scam here in Thailand recently. So, what happened?

Good video Ian.
I use my visa agent here in Pattaya for everything (open bank account, Non O retirement visa extensions, motorbike and also car licenses). So far no issues or scams. Cheap = no --> but peace of mind = a BIG yes.

Ian, by the way, your new look (haircut + beard) are looking real good 👍🤩

I appreciate the transparency and sharing both the good and bad.

Sorry bro. My visa agency is so good I basically pay whatever they say something will cost. Because dealing with another agency when I’ve built up a lot of trust with my main place seems like a pain in the butt. Thanks for imparting the lesson.😊

Sorry to hear that man! You live and learn.... the only thing hurt here was your pride.... lick your wounds, dust yourself off, and keep it moving. Lesson learned!

As the saying goes "It takes a big man to admit his mistakes" and to do so publicly in the hope that it might help others... Kudos to you 👍

Sorry you got scammed. It can happen anywhere.
BTW the new look with trimmed hair and no sunglasses is on point.

Great great video. My two cents are, firstly, the facebook group pages you see are a giant pool for scammers and secondly, you said that "most" people/services are reliable but I would say that's being too generous and in reality it's more like "a lot of" at best. From personal experience, even amongst the visa agents that were introduced in well-known pattaya youtuber's videos, one agent took vital personal documents and ghosted me, and another one flat out ignored my inquiry, which goes to show that even the highly praised ones are not necessarily what they seem. Be careful.

I got my first Thai driver's license 20 yrs ago and renewed it many times. Legally. I got it all myself. I feel for you. There is a Thai saying " Som Nam Naa". Good lesson for you, my friend.

thanks for sharing mate. Just a quick question? So if I don't have a license here in Australia, am I able to get a bike license there in Thailand and how much? Sorry and what would be the process?
Thank in advance.

Man, look up the process of getting a license.. Its super easy, you would have it all done and dusted in MAX two weeks.. Ive usually read about people getting it done in one week. And the total costs is like 350/500 for bike/car license and 500-1000 for the residence certificate.. Then go do the test.
The total comes up to around 1500-2000 baht MAXIMUM, more than that and you got scammed

Never once been scammed in Thailand but Vietnam they tried and Cambodia they did including stealing things. Thailand is great but Philippines is greater.

Just to say: a few years ago I needed a driver's license, because my old one was expired. I went to the office, made an appointment, did the usual tests. It took me a few days and the license was like 250 Baht. Why difficult if it can be done easily. I know of people who had their license translated and verified. It cost them a lot more money and time than I needed...

That is good info. But Facebook? Next time, if you get the urge to use that black hole of the universe, just open your window and toss the cash out. Much less stress involved. 🙂
