Holo Rust server: you are not allowed to kill others without reason anymore
Pekora, Suisei and Gura: aight ill play something else to sate my bloodlust

With Rust, I think Gura had the most fun just interacting with others and participating in PVP. But in order for that to happen there has to be people online to play with so trying to align schedules as a group is quite the task. Also, the 3rd season ended with a whimper because there were some Hololive events happening around the same time or holomems were busy or taking a break.
After the exciting finale to season 2, I think Hololive should have wrapped it up there or put it on hiatus for a quieter month rather than force the 3rd season.

These are actually the reasons Botan gave for not playing Rust in the first place. Too many rules and she was worried she might unknowingly break one (and wind up accidentally pissing off that girl's fanbase). I can see why she dropped it but it's still a shame since she seemed to really enjoy it.

Honestly, I'm with Gura for this one. Too many roles can cause either confusion or frustration

Rust pretty much died when
1. Some of the girls burned out from playing too much
2. The new map for season 3 was bad and the glitches made some of them stop playing
3. The season 3 rules and some of the girls being busy led to many of the girls dropping the game
4. Can’t forget about the backseating with some girls using members only chat or playing Rust in members streams to stop the constant backseating.
I think Season 2 and it’s finale was amazing to watch, you can’t forcefully recreate that type of content.

lol everybody off topic in the comments. Gura just doesn't wanna spend 5 hours a week resource farming. They should just turn the upkeep off/super low so it doesn't need to be a grind.

season 2 was fun. come season 3 the map got so big, so many new rules applied, it's hard to randomly run into people anymore and you dont get funny neighbour moments like mumei and ame's. the server getting wipe clean was such a hassle too, still sad no one else seen ame's derby.

Rust is a great example of when the fans' themselves kill the hype by inadvertently asking management to place rules.

At the beginning, Rust, was really fun to watch. When mems would go on a killing spree and other mems were afraid of every encounter. That is the core of Rust, next to the building and looting. Sure, if people want to role play as peacekeeper, would've be fun, like mems going to the peacekeeper and reporting that a mem needs to be hunt down. But yeah, with every season chats became toxic af, mems setting up rules to be friendly to each other missed the point of Rust. I definitely understand Gura not being interested

She doesn't want to get yelled at by ame again.

I thought about getting RUST, but then I found out anything you build breaks down over time if you don't 'pay' an upkeep of items. That's ok while you are in game, but I also heard that it happens while you are offline too and then there is the regular full server reset where you end up starting from scratch. Not the sort of game I'm interested in playing.

Honestly, with all the backseating and chat toxicity I understand why they got tired of it.

THIS is what I mean, Rust doesn't look fun at all. Where's the fun in constantly having to feed your bloody base every single day or have your base melt down? Expanding your base, making it bigger only brings the upkeep cost higher which means more time spent having to bloody upkeep the damn thing. The upkeep and the very frequent server resets deter me from ever enjoying such a game. Watching someone else play it isn't any more fun since all their progress just fecking goes out the window every month or so. I'm making a guess that Gura realised this same point after the second season ended and she realised "oh... now I have to start all over again" all that time she spent keeping up her base, and it's gone for literally no reason.

Rust is meant to be a lawless/ruleless game, there are different ways to play the game but the bare bones of the game is a PvP survival game and applying strict rules on formalities reduces overall experience for the viewer and player. Obviously some people had fun making RP businesses like Watson or Calli being a sheriff I'm just saying that the rules made the streams quite a chore to watch and I often skipped them.

I called it, after last season "incidents". It is what it is.

Yeah I feel like Guras best when it's some plug and play type games where there's minimal rules and she can have her fun

Yea rust is starting to feel very annoying especially seeing chat constantly telling what the idols should do in the streams

Seems that it's time to let Rust sleep for a while. Let's remember the end of the Season 2 like the true end with Pekora as the awesome final boss and Season 3 like the epilogue of this saga.

Eh, I don't mind that she dropped the game. Season 5 is rather slim at this point so I'm just enjoying the RUST dates from HoloID's Kaela, Moona, Anya and Reine.

Kaela is a gamer after my own heart uwu ♥

I wonder which rules she was talking about... I mean, the only "free for all" season with no rules applied is season 1. They already had some rules, such as "no offline raid" applied in season 2, but still we get a lot of quality contents. And we can all agree that season 2 is the peak season of HoloRust.

More rules applied in season 3 of course, but I don't think it was those rules that killed the game. It simply because the veterans like Matsuri, Pekora, Suisei, Polka, Fubuki, who keep the game alive until that point, already played less .Only Miko still played regularly in season 3. Don't get me wrong, but the way I see it, the other members just failed to make the game entertaining, either because they're too "peaceful" or because their playstyle didn't suit Rust.
