This week's video is a quick comparison between modern and vintage ribbon microphones. In this video I use a 1960's Oktava ML-16 and modern Nady RSM-2 as examples.
I post videos just like this one every Friday night, so subscribe to stay up to date on what's next!

Great video. Not too much chat and proves a good point. The vintage one just sounds sweeter and not cloudy and bloated.

as someone who’s just sort of in the early stages of trying to tune my ear to distinctions like these it’s so fun to compare! I feel like it’s easy to hear the vintage here and quickly think there’s too much boominess just based on what we maybe expect from modern eq curves. But then I tried listening to it with depth in mind, and all of a sudden that super intimate low end sounds deeper and less crushed than the modern. Kinda crazy!

Hello Cole, I'm a musician who loves vintage gear, and I'm a big fan of your channel. You usually show hifi vintage microphones, which I love by the way, but I'd love to see some lofi microphones too. Peace brother, love your content 🙏🙏

I got a GTZ-22 Ribbon today from GTx Audio then found your video. I’m wondering which mic here I should be more comparing it to. Can’t wait to get it in the mail also 50% off on his site right now 🎉

To me the m16 sounds a bit muffled and with a stronger bass, but the Nady sounds more natural.

Ribbons bring a very "organic" vibe. Seems like it's not as clinical as an LDC, which is good, but has good depth at the bottom end.

The Oktava ML-18 has clearer mids. What micpre did you use?
