New developments in particle physics suggest scientists could have stumbled upon a solution to something known as the Gallium Anomaly. The discovery hints at the existence of a new elementary particle. The Sterile Neutrino. And if confirmed, this would mean that a major chunk of our theories would need to be revised. An anomaly that was discovered more than 2 decades ago and has remained largely unsolved until now.
Scientists might have finally stumbled upon an explanation here, and what they have found could have the potential to change not just the face of the standard model of physics, but also influence cosmology itself.
Either way, at this moment, this is one of the most mysterious, and one of the most unusual mysteries in physics. I would even go so far as to say it's possibly one of the most important anomalies. If resolved definitively, it could help us understand the universe in ways we could never explain it before. Although we're not anywhere closer to an actual, definitive solution yet, there's a big chance that in the next decade or so it will be solved. And such that it might actually lead to a major breakthrough in physics that could once again lead to another Nobel Prize.

Beautiful graphics and well-written explanation.

Interesting and informative. Could sterile neutrinos be responsible for dark matter?

The formation of Sterile Neutrinos before the electromagnetic and weak forces even came into being is quite an interesting route towards ending the nonsense of Dark This and Dark That :-)

Neutral neutrino in this study means jumping between 4 neutrinos instead of 3. 1/4 states does not effect the matter. Simple explanation, if correct. Next we should find other ways to study this anomaly. Does it only happen with gallium? Does gallium have features that makes this happen? Do testing with different equipments and location to rule out some errors. ...

Most likely having test site in Russia, is a bad thing under Ukraine war...

People are talking about multidimensional physics. It changes how we think, but are we there yet.

I think it's option 1. We fundamentally have over theorized and visualized physics. The answers, however hidden, may be more obvious once understood.
Then again. I am just a tube lurker.
