When I came back from my third deployment, my ex-wife was a no show. She legitimately forgot I was returning that day. Ended up having to call a taxi and sit on the porch in front of my house until she got back from shopping.

It was legitimately one of the most depressing moments of my life not having anyone there.

I would genuinely lose myself. I can’t even imagine what he was feeling. I don’t even know how to express how painful that must feel.

This stuff happens more than people know. 3 guys i knew in basic training lost everything they had because their wives took everything while they were away over seas. When they got back, their homes were owned by someone else their cars all sold, and they ended up taking their own lives. The only thing that kept them alive was their loved ones, but they didn't have that, and they broke down. It's very heartbreaking. I never expected to get over 20 likes, let alone over 380 likes for my comment

That’s horrible! I lived in Virginia Beach and had many military friends and fortunately none of my friends had to face this but I know it happens. The least you could do is let him know before he gets home so he doesn’t come home to an empty house/apartment.

The fact that this happens in real life too, makes it all the more heart breaking. My husband was sent to vietnam and came back a different person id known for years. We werekids when we mwt. I loved him with my heart and soul. We had a son and my husband was now addicted to drugs. I tried to make things work. But to no avail as he was putting our son in harms way. I left, After a couple years he finally was getting help. We were planning on remarrying. Those dreams were destroyedby a drunk driver who killed my love. Ive been single since. Im now 72yrs and waiting for the day i see him in heaven beside my Lord Jesus waiting for me. I feel so bad for anyone who has to go through this kind of heartbreak. God bless you all.

For those wondering what happened the scene is from "Thank you for your service"

From what I remember he decides to join the army for his family, not discussing it with his wife if she would be OK to be abandoned alone with the kid and she chose to leave him after he abandoned her with the same lack of discussion he gave to her.

She went too far justifying to her self stealing all the income as child support and refusing to let him see his child for no valid reason beneficial to the kid.

Been a while since I sort of half saw the film through shorts so might have mixed up some things plus there are multiple stories involved.

This is why our army recruiter advised all recruits to enlist while single. Real family (Dad, mom, brothers and sisters) will not disappoint you when you get off that plane and meet you there with hugs and family love. Marriage can wait until after their deployment ends.

I know that feeling..6 month deployment. Got a dear John letter dec. 25..came back, my ex wife and son gone. Its a heartbreaking feeling. To all my brothers and sister in arms. If that happens to you, reach out to friends, conselors mental heath anyone. Dont look for a bottle for comfort and dont tackle it alone. I know we are built to hide our feelings, but healing is just as important than the deployment you did or the job you do and if you lost a fellow brother or sister in arms, and you survived the deployment they would want you to live for them also. Please always seek help if and when you need it.
