Salsa Timberjack Hardtail Mullet Bike | MTB Mixed Wheel Sizes

I've tried my Salsa Timberjack as a 29er and as a 27.5 plus bike, but how does it ride if I mix them and run it as a mullet bike? In this video, I take my hardtail to the steep and rocky trails of Copper City outside of Three Forks, Montana and test it out with two different wheel sizes.

Another fantastic video. Great riding and great articulation of what you're feeling. It's egressing to see someone not just praising the mullet in all areas because it's the latest fad. Great work, a very trustworthy review.

I've got my rigid Karate Monkey as a plus mullet with 2.8 Rekons. I freaking love it. Singlespeed for around home, and gears for bikepacking. It's the most versatile bike I've ever rode.

Yip. I been contemplating this mullet idea for Winter abuse. Narrow tires handle better in snow-clogged road conditions. Fat bike tires, have little stability and tons of resistance when five or more inches of snow are on the roads. Have even noticed people on gravel bikes gettin' plenty of traction on snow-covered roads. And commuting to/from work is always before the plows are out. Hard-packed snow on roads, is nearly impossible to gain traction. Even on a fat bike. Recently installed a Zeron 36 fork to my 2019 Rangefinder SLX & a syntace W40 650b rim. Bring-on Winter.

I think a Mullet Plus Hardtail would be a great setup myself, I may one day try it. I love my plus hardtail I have now with 27.5 x 2.8's

Im looking at the 2023 Timberjack. I havent found much on this setup so thanks for the content. I ride flow trails and low to moderate jumps. Since you have experience on different setups, what would you recommend? Full 27.5 plus, 29er or Mullet?

I’ve been switching back and forth just trying different thing. I started with 27.5+ front and rear. Then went to a mullet . My particular tire wheel combo was a difference of 5/8 of an inch from center of hub from the ground. The bike felt ok but not to confidence inspiring. So I measured my handle bar center from ground with the 27.5+ . Then when I went back to the 29 I lowered the handle bars accordingly and that made a big difference. Going to try and lengthen the wheel base next .

Cool video (as usual), and timely too!

I'm about to upgrade the fork on my 2019 Timberjack XT (from a RockShox Sektor to a Fox 34 Rhythm) and was considering mullet-izing it as well for winter riding. What year is your Salsa? Wondering if it's got the same geometry as my 2019...

Now you need to try mullet 29 plus front, and 27.5 plus rear! 29 plus momentum for the win!

What wheel/tire did you use in front and in back did you use stock 27.5”+ tire? I am trying to take my SLX 2021 and make it a mullet I want 29x2.6 in front, what do you recommend?
