Only video i have seen to suggest what i naturally started doing in steeps and difficult terrain, pivot turns. Leaning forward, scary at first, and bumping out the back allows me to get rhe edge change exactly where i need to get me on a specific line. Basically near instant 170 degree turn without "jumping" and keepin you in control/contact with the ground. Mogels became so much more fun when i discovered this. Getting into a groove and just "bouncing" down the mogels is a dream, but hard.

Most of the time i just send it and hope for the best. You will supprise yourself what you can ride out.

Very helpful I didn’t even think to go up the mountain to lose speed. I always fell on my butt when doing a heel side stop but next season I’ll just use momentum up the hill to stop. Especially on the ice coast with extremely high moguls.

On mid steep terrain are use the Fallingleaf technique. It is so helpful.

I FINALLY got my toe edge comfortable, yesterday! It’s taken so long as I had a mind block after busting my wrist last season! I’m turning 50 this year and just learning to snowboard! I’m damn proud of myself! Now onto smoother turns! 🎉❤

The great thing about riding that gully/chute is that you have two options for going up the fall line, you can go back up the chute slightly, or run the traverse a bit longer and ride up the walls before turning, and if you traverse across and run up each wall before turning you will feel - and *look* - awesome. 😍
Another tip for steeps is to keep your weight above the board, so you're pushing straight down, not down and "out". I always have to work at this on my heelside on steeps, pushing down on the board instead of down and forward - if I push down and forward and the board skids then it tends to keep skidding and I end up on my butt.
(Oh, and crouch, more than you think!)

Good choice of run! That was Dropout Chutes (one of the easier double blacks at Mammoth if you can believe it!)

Well, good tips and another one: just use your edge, board can just cut through some snow bumps easily. This is so called compensation iirc. Relax, use your weight, loose your knees and be aware of your hips over the board and just have fun. Oh, and try to not stop on the steep terrain - this could make you frightened or in panic, you need to relax and enjoy. If you think you need to stop, just change the edge or ride slower but do not stop (of course if you do not know what lies behind than you should stop and look around).

This helped a lot! I started snowboarding and my first fear was the toeside, but I overcame that and next was the fact I was heel sliding down any steep terrain, but this helped a lot!

I try to ride back up the hill but then get stuck on my toe side edge and freeze, unable to get back to heel side edge. Usually icy where I ride so it’s difficult to sweep back to heel side.

2:11 i'm def guilty of this chatter, how do you go up the mountain on the heel side, or is the toe side just easier as you mention a bit later?

Every time I put myself in that situation I then question myself why and if I’m actually enjoying the ride

@jonathanbuckhouse, can’t believe u didn’t give a shout out to chair 23 @mammothmountain!!! I recognized it right away! That was either Cornice Bowl or Dropout Chutes.

Great informative video though! It’d be great if all the skiers disappeared one day and they wouldn’t leave their moguls behind! Specially Cornice Bowl is a great run when it’s flat, u can really traverse across from side to side!

I'm good on steeps as long as it's powder, but as soon as there's any ice, then it's HELL THE FUCK NO!

First tip when riding in general is to wear gloves or mitts. Just as important as wearing a helmet.
