What's New in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is dubbed "Focal Fossa" and it's Canonical's Eighth LTS (Long Term Support) release. It will be supported with security and software updates for five years, until April 2025, This release received numerous improvements over previous releases.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS features the latest GNOME 3.36 desktop environment by default and it's powered by the most recent and advanced kernel, Long term Support of Linux kernel 5.4. Shows OEM vendor logo during boot, new lock and login screens, introduce the yaru Dark theme, Fractional scaling options, Snap-based Ubuntu Software app and GDM multi-monitor support.

This is the first time the default ubuntu theme looks great, plus dark mode. Really good!

One thing I noticed about the new Gnome 3.36 is that until 19.10, sometimes, after some hours passed while doing my work, the fan would spin faster. Sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't. But since 20.04, the gap where the air leaves is always cold as if my computer was OFF. It's insane. Best LTS ever.

I can't wait to use it! I've been waiting for so long for another LTS release!!!! Jumping from 18.04 LTS to this new LTS will definitely be huge leap forward. I'm so hyped!

I've been using this version since yesterday and I love it. Took a chance and did an upgrade rather than a fresh install, and luckily, there's been no problems so far. If anything, it seems considerably smoother and faster than 18.04. Awesome video btw!

how's the wifi on the laptop? my dell vostro 3468 wifi performs poor on any linux distro whereas it performs exceptionally well on windows 10.

this is the most important linux release this year. With ubuntu 20.04 lts a lot of new users will be coming to linux as now linux is as good as an any other mainstream os.With this ubuntu release we have professional, well designed and well supported os. If canonical does things right Ubuntu can a major os in market share. Canonical please don't screw it up.

Hi, Thanks very much for the video.
I was not able to install 20.04 as the installer didn't allow as my system was with Intel RST. So I installed 18.04 and upgraded to 20.04.
After upgrading I installed the KDE desktop .
And once at the login screen I chose the "Ubuntu on Wayland" option and logged in. After that the Wayland theme got stuck when I logged back in the default Ubuntu.

After doing these 2 things, I lost the new features of 20.04 like the Ubuntu boot screen with Dell logo and the power off/ log out blur effect screen. Not sure how to get that back.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
