The Most Ridiculous EV - Genesis GV60

If the Genesis G80 was the Grandpa car, the GV60 is the "cool aunt" car. With a... unique exterior design, a ton of power, and a flashy interior, it's hard to pin down who this is for, but boy is it a fun ride. Alex took it for a spin and has some thoughts (and maybe a new car?)

I absolutely love Alex's enthusiasm for the car videos! I wonder how he got picked to be the host/writer for them

Love these car reviews from Alex. His sound / audio review is amazing. Instead of just going over the raw specs like number of speakers and tweeters, he talks about the actual sound quality and sound staging and the experience which is what end users care about. More Alex car videos please !!

I'll never get tired of these EV reviews! Even though I'm not in a position to buy any of them, it's fun to see the market!

I purchased one of these and I absolutely love it. I think it looks better than the Ionic, but it's subjective... He's right about the white getting dirty quickly though... it just looks so nice on the inside. At night, the accent lighting makes the white look so good as well. It's worth it to me to just clean the carpets every now and then. I also have the Advanced with 20in rims. (But no boost button...😞)

Having lived with the car for a bit longer than Alex, I have some additions to his review:

I did test the facial and fingerprint scanner and it works mint! I wouldn't go far from home with worries it might not work... but I have no reason not to trust it.

The trunk auto opener is alright... it starts almost every time for me. I think the reason why it doesn't work for a lot of reviewers is it doesn't work if you're standing around the car for a long time. You need to be away from the car for a certain time to prevent accidental opens. They assume if you're standing around the car you don't want to open the liftgate. That being said, if I want the liftgate opened, I don't want to wait for the 3 beeps. I'm just hitting the button. On my Sonata, which also had this feature, the auto trunk helped me maybe once when I had a bunch of stuff in my hand. Other than that... nearly useless feature. But that waterfall thing... that's annoying as hell. Especially in the winter when the car is dirty. You get dirty water dripping on you.

I don't know what he's talking about with the squeaky wheel. I have about 500 miles on my car and haven't noticed it at all. I've never moved my hand on a steering wheel (ever) the way he was here. Maaaybe... don't do that? Lol! I do slide my hand back and forth because he's right about the wheel being super soft and plush. It feels great and was the first thing that actually sold me on the car. Way better than the Ionic 5 wheel. The wheel and the gear selector... which is SICK!!!

The passenger side air freshener is kind of dumb because it's made for pods that they don't sell in the US. Some people cut up the little trees or use dryer sheets...

I will agree that the wireless android auto missing is dumb. The Sonata was the same way. Why have a wireless charger if you are plugging in anyway?!?

I do agree the sound system is fine... the Bose in the Sonata was better. For most people though, I expect the sound to be more than enough... Their EQ system is one of the dumbest things I've seen.

The car also will do a 90 degree turn and park itself. I don't know if it's because the cameras are obstructed with winter gunk, but that hasn't worked too well for me now. Using the standard smart park stuff is nice to pull in and out still.

A couple other neat things.. I love the way to moon roof opens. It splits from the middle which is a nice touch. The door handles have the Genesis logo projected to the ground which is cool. And the auto unlock when you walk up to it (which is a common EV thing) is nice. Also, the white key fob is dope as hell!!!

Love how he just accelerated faster than 90% of anyone who's been in a car.

At the first glance I thought the design was weird, but as the video progressed, I liked it more and more. Now I think the exterior is Great! Unique enough to stand out, but subtle and balanced at the same time.

I actually don’t mind the manual blinds for the backseat, but I guess I’m used to it from my mom’s car.

The gear selector turning over when the car turns on might be the most stupid thing ever. It’s just another unnecessary thing to break and when it does break, you’re fucked. You can turn your car on but can’t put it into gear.

2:52 it's not capable of 350kW. Not even in the peak. It's maximum charge rate is 240kW (like ev6 and ioniq). Also it's kW, not kWh. kWh is the capacity of a battery, kW is changing power.

So the frunk line being where it is was probably the best choice. [Pushes up designer glasses] You have a couple options given the headlight design. First is inline with the bottom of the top lights. This might have the affect of making the bottom lights "float", which would look weird. You could extend the line equidistant between them but it'd gut in and look like a weird smile. What they did instead was put it offset in a way that's balanced with the distance form the bottom of the top light to the top of the bottom light. As a result it gives the entire area a connected feel and no one piece is apart.

I think it looks pretty good, personally.

Always enjoy seeing the automotive content! Personally, I'm still partial to the Ioniq 5. The price markup compared to the Ioniq 5 and EV6 doesn't feel very justified. Sure, it's a pretty vehicle with a very different aesthetic, and it has cool tech, but I'll take an Ioniq any day.

Seeing Alex put the bottle in the trunk made me think what a great idea it is to leave a little bit of merch in every vehicle you test.

Why does the text say it would be charging with a speed of up to 350 kWh, not kW?! Great Video!

4:39 -- watching this video on my phone and I didn't have it full screen. I was laughing so hard thinking that was a shot of Yvonne getting in the car...

Alex sees a litlle compartiment in the car, and automatically thinks of hiding weed there. GENIOUS :)

I think Alex deserves a EV Auto channel.
I would watch all days.

Minor note for the editor: 350kW charging, not kWh. Kilowatts are a unit of power, which is what you’re measuring for charge speed. Kilowatt-hours are a unit of energy, which is what you’re measuring for how much of the battery capacity you charged.

Every single Hyundai/Kia group car review from this channel has had the incorrect charging speed quoted. Max speed is 240kW on a 350kW charger...the E-GPM vehicles cannot charge at 350kW.

The Tesla commentary about nanny's kicking in is very misleading. (8:40) . The Model Y Performance has an extremely versatile and adjustable track mode that allows adjustable front / rear torque vectoring and traction assist levels from 0 to 10 (and includes presets like Drift Mode). Not to take away from the GV60, but this is a poor mark on the review that shows an incorrect comparison. Tesla's implementation is very, VERY good, not at all close to the illustration in this review.
