One of the most difficult things for beginners is determining how much to bid. When I first learned the game, my friends and I played several hands without bidding and they told me to just take as many tricks as I could. This allowed me to really get the feel of the game and made bidding easier later.

Overall, this is a great tutorial, and I appreciate it. The one negative would be that (TYPICALLY), you want to throw the smallest card needed to win a trick and throw the smallest card possible when none of your cards can win, anyway. So, since the tutorial wasn't getting into deeper strategy, it was pointless not to model this.

I’ve been playing the game grossly uninformed smh I never heard of the suits having rank in Spades.
Now it makes sense why the players online was so upset with me.
This new information has me so excited right now it adds more strategic moves to the game.

For bidding, a general rule of thumb is to bid the # of spades (exclude 2, 3, 4, spades) along with the number of non-spade Aces in your hand. Let's say you have....

2, 5, 10, J, Q spades and also an Ace heart. Assuming there are no other Aces in my hand, I would likely bid 5.

Bidding is WAY more complicated than that but it is usually helpful for beginner players until they learn the game. I've won as few as 2 tricks with 7 spades on my hand and also have won as many as 5 tricks with no spades in my hand.

Throw a off suit King on something that you ran out of when you had the ability to cut, that's a fight if you're on my team.

I'm so glad for this video, I was visiting New Orleans to see family, the family were out in the backyard playing spades listening to old school music, only I couldn't join b/c I didn't know how to play. That won't happen now.
