Thank you so much for making this video! Its very clear and easy to understand as I am applying for a new position at my company and JIT along with Kan-ban was included in the job descriptions as being able to implement such strategies. Thanks a bunch!

You're right. But again, you're talking dealerships, so it's automotive right? JIT works for companies that have the linear and constant demand to make it work. Automotive, telecom, wireless (and others). However far too many companies run it for the wrong reasons - because of something they've read or seen work for another company in an entirely different industry with a different business model. It's the perfect solution to an imperfect business world.

Hi Edna. My name is Ian Johnson and I am a part time B2B management consultant who works in supply chain management, manufacturing, operations, sales, marketing, business development and strategic planning. I work with several consulting firms in the United States & Canada. I also have my own direct customers and run a blog called DriveYourSuccess. I work full time in sales and marketing for a manufacturer of custom-made industrial finished goods.

Good point Tim. I should clarify: JIT can work under the right circumstances. But, even JIT needs a little Just in Case inventory: accounting for some safety stock within the supply chain (borrowing from min-max): Kan-Bans have safety stock: it just doesn't appear that way when demand is high. People confuse JIT and believe its doctrine eschews emergency/safety stock. Search on Google for: "Just in Time, Just in Case and Just Plain Wrong" It's an interesting read on JIT and its origins.

By the way Tim, you're 100% right about retail.

Crisp and clear. I have a question. Will JIT work for online fruit basket sellers?

I would imagine it could, but I have never been exposed to that kind of supply chain. It's a good question. I guess that the best food is the freshest food - so, JIT would work in an environment where the produce has to be fresh and consumed in a short period of time.
