Good that the Union Govt. has announced an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs for the relatives of the deceased. But what should be done and done urgently is to provide houses for those thousands who have lost their houses and only the Union Govt. can do it. In the face of the losses incurred by the victims this 2 lakhs is a mere pittance. Modi can include this area in one of his development schemes and provide houses - not palatial abodes but just livable cottages at least - for the calamity stricken. Funds may be allotted from the disaster aid schemes. This is the minimum that could be done under the situation. It's URGENT. Other gestures like visiting the spot or conveying condolences is of little use and will be considered as mere shedding of crocodile tears in the absence of concrete steps to alleaviate the pains of the victims. -Prof. G.
