Talent VS Training: Could Anybody Race The Tour de France? | GCN Show Ep.400

This week on the GCN Show, as the Tour de France action is heating up we take a look at whether it might be possible for any cyclist to get good enough to ride the Tour just by training hard. They say hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, but is there any truth to that? This week, Si and Dan mull it over.

What do you think? Could anybody train to reach the Tour de France, or is it all about genetics and natural talent?

I once coached a guy who had the DNA but his parents didn't support him training hard so he quit while lesses athletes I coached went on to become Olympians. So it not just talent and training, it's also the environment.

It wouldn't be the 400th episode without a well-deserved mention of the Cervélo TestTeam ;)

OMG can't believe I just heard my name on the show thanks guys! CHEERS! Don't worry my development only got improved by encouraging me to cycle and stay active, watching you guys only helped to grow my love for cycling and I still do it every single day I can... Over the past years I've definitely grown as a person and cyclist and no matter where I find myself in life I'm glad I can always count on you guys to consistently put out great videos. I'm extremely lucky to have grown alongside the channel and you guys and to have been along for the journey which hopefully is just getting started. So many good memories have been made watching you guys. Sometimes I can still faintly hear the sound of Matt not clipping in first time, Dan missing the bean bag (or having too many mineral waters) and Si cleaning his bike and using WD40 (I've done it too...maybe the only bad thing you've taught me). But obviously can't forget all of the amazing presenters... Manon, Hank, Ollie, Emma, Conor, Tom, Chris and Jeremy. Love all you guys keep up the amazing work it affects people's lives more than you can imagine.

Great show, lads. GCN inspired me to buy a road bike after years of riding a MTB. I already did 500km on my entry level BTwin bike, in less than 3 weeks after the purchase.

I discovered GCN at the beginning of 2019 when I was in the process of choosing a gravel bike. Since then I've been watching all 400 GCN shows one by one and today I finally caught up. It's been a great and incredibly funny ride!

Also I have to say that while I still love taking my gravel bike into quiet forest roads I recently bought a proper road bike and I'm riding that much more than any other bike I own. This is definitely at least partly thanks to the GCN channel which keeps inspiring me. Thank you guys!

Lots of the Bahrain- McLaren team also wears Richard Mille watches.
They are sponsored by them and have in contract that they should wear them in races.
Keep up the good work.

Dan - Clearly a Monty Python fan, “And now for something completely different!”

The general discussion from about 6:00 minutes to 9:13 was some of the best you guys have ever done. Very enjoyable to hear the insights from experience. But remember, guys - you both made it to the professional levels of team cycling, and that's not to be disregarded. Most of us still look up to the GCN presenters.

Today at the TdF (Stage 10) at the second crash of the day, about 10 riders went down and most of them were waiting for there team cars to show up and the Mavic neutral support car just goes by and doesn't stop. It they don't give out the bikes after crash, what are they for? Is the Mavic neutral support car just a rolling commercial or does anyone every use one after a crash?

The best cyclist is the one having the most fun! I like to push my boundaries and get faster and faster, but does it really mean anything? Wear that Cervelo team kit proudly, Dan!
