How to make a simple map in ArcMap

This video goes through how to make your first map in ArcMap. I call this "Hello World" borrowing from computer programming's tradition of making your first program. In this map, we use built-in basemap, drawing toolbar, and map elements to make a simple map. This is using ArcMap 10.0 Good video for someone who is just opening ArcMap for the first time.

As you know there are no hard rules in design just guidelines. The scalebar could have gone on the dataframe itself, or even where the captain went. True it would be better. The main point in making a map is effective communication and this map does the job.
