Couple of bits I didn't mention. I repeated the cleaning and washing stage several times to work through the grime making sure all was rinsed thoroughly before leaving to dry. Hopefully one day we will get to the restoration side of things. Check out Opus Tile Restoration on FB and IG for some pro info and before and afters! 👌

Love, it; so satisfying to watch things being maintained, renewed, held on to, given a new lease of life! (Especially in our ‘throw away’ culture). Your attitude to restore things and look after them reminds me of my late Grandparents, who also had a very similar floor to this in their pantry. 👍👏

I stencilled the pattern of our encaustic tiles on the section of concrete. Many years ago (1940's) heating was put in and steel pipes put under the floor. A large area of concrete was left which looked awful. So I stencilled the existing pattern onto the concrete and it looks great. The house was built before 1840 and the tiles are original.

Them tiles are brilliant. It amazes me how good they look. The colours are still so vibrant after so long

I laughed out loud when you moved the princess dress to frame one of the kids after using the sewing machine!

From what I understand Tile Tessellation are laid on a bed of "wet mortar" with tiles abutting one another. which means that you lay the bedding material and start laying tiles because if the bedding material dries you rip up all the work and start again. Only saw it once on a TV renovation show where a tiler was laying a tessellate pattern on a front entrance porch, dont know if the tile layer was accurate in what he was saying or doing but he did a great job it just looked stunning.

Beautiful tiles and well worth preservation even though it looked hard work.

Another job well done, 😂 It must be a old builders thing, you hold on to stuff like my old man, thinking it’ll come in handy for a job somewhere down the line. And sure enough it does. Keep up the good work 👍

Hi bud the best knee pads i ever bought are the padded material one like wrestlers use or marital arts. I do have the plastic type but they kill my knees after a bit, love the floor😊.

Hi there I recently pulled up 3 layers of vinyl flooring in my kitchen(recently bought) 🤢to find the original quarry stone tiles underneath about 200 years old. I have the exact same issue as you where they used to have a Matt in the floor it really bugs me but I just cover it amazing how much a bit of sealer makes a massive difference you done a really good job well done keeping it original 👍🏼

This is the video I've been waiting at least two years to see!! Love that floor! I tried to get those patchwork tiles but could not find them in Canada and would not buy from the states. Ended up having my tile setter cut patchwork shapes to my design from the large tiles we floored with, for a modernized black/white/grey take on the style, and we put an inlaid patchwork "tile rug" at each entry door. (Soaring labour cost but I love the result)
I hope you're able to find tiles to fill in the other areas, it'll be a fussy job but will look fantastic. In the meantime, I wonder whether you could get some paint matched, and just stencil the patchwork pattern onto those concrete bits...
Wouldn't a quilted wall hanging or throw in the same pattern and colours look great in one of the sitting rooms. But maybe leave that to Jo, eh? You have mad skills with everything except the sewing machine. I almost yelled at my screen...

I didn't realize you had kept the tile floor! It looks wonderful. Hopefully, the rest can be restored at some point!

That looks stunning. It must be very difficult to resist not replacing the missing tiles but it will take a while.

Seeing you do all that scrubbing made me think you should have got cleaning attachments for a drill, I have some and they make doing tiles so much easier!
