Widor Toccata.. but I haven't played it for years!

Our guide Andrea asked me to play the famous Widor Toccata on this organ and well.. I haven't played it in years. So let's find out what this sounds like!

We're currently traveling northern Italy and have the wonderful opportunity to visit and record several historic organs in the Bergamo and Milano region. In this video we are playing the organ in Sant Antonio di Padova in Peia, which is a wonderful, more modern instrument which has all the fun stops! It features a completely modernized console, a swell division right next to the console and some powerful reeds. The church itself typical italian and has fantastic acoustics!

I hope you'll enjoy this video of the organ as well as the traveling-shots. Please let me know if you like this video style and I can show you more "behind the scenes" and traveling footage. It is so much fun to film, so I'd be happy to share more.

Dear Paul, you are a wonderfully authentic human being who does the world of organs and organists an enormous service. THANK YOU for what you do! Marc

Any criticism or advice I could give would be so pale. But to non-musicians, playing that as well as he did after not having done it for so long is a) par far any great musician and b) absolutely brilliant. The fact that he almost never stopped even with wrong notes is something you need to do in performance. If it's a rehearsal, you can always go back and fix it, but in performance the show must go on. I know I couldn't do it. Three cheers, sir!

WOW Beautiful cathedral and organ. Your registration and playing made the cathedral sound fabulous. I really enjoy your tour of churches. All have been very interesting.

This video just makes me grin from ear to ear. I love it! It also makes me realize that even the best musicians make mistakes, even you. I learned that it is ok to make a mistake. I play bari sax in a jazz band (24 years now) and when I mess up, I feel very inadequate. But I keep pushing on and marking my music and practicing. I can't tell you how much I enjoy this type of video! Thank you again!!

Love the behind the scene look showing how challenging this piece is to play. IMO, the greatest organ piece ever written.

Ein bißchen Mut zu improvisieren muß man schon haben! Sehr schön gespielt, Herr Fey; and besten Dank. Es ist für mich eine große Freude, Ihre Videos, die ich unlängst entdeckt habe, bei der Arbeit – über Kopfhörer natürlich! – zu hören. Alles Gute, und nur weiter so!
