Ryan Borgwardt, a Wisconsin man who faked his own drowning and left his wife and three children for Eastern Europe, willingly returned to the U.S. after four months and was charged Wednesday with obstructing an intense lake search for his body. Contrary to popular belief, former FBI special agent Stuart Kaplan says faking your death is not a crime in the U.S. However, Kaplan says Borgwardt may have other legal issues at hand.

Nonsense. He had no interest to come back. He was catfished and found himself screwed. He had no choice but to crawl back. 😅

He put his family through so much pain, and he lost everything that really mattered. He already has all the consequences that he needs. What a complete fool and a very bad father and husband.

I remember the days when a man was in a mid-life crisis they bought a sports car and got a girlfriend 20 years their junior. Well, I don't know how old the woman was he ran off to, but to fake your own death, that's taking it to a whole other level. 😮

His wife should not have to pay back a dime of the insurance policy. Go after him for fraud. That's what he is

Once we heard he ran off to Europe to meet a woman……all I could think of were all the catfished people on Dr Phil

He has no doubt that’s BS. He got dumped. Faking his death means he has no desire to come back at all.

His wife filed for divorce. Glad she wised up for that one. Faking death is not a crime but he costs that city thousands trying to find him.

The wife has filed for divorce and although I'm sure it brings her no happiness, she will get EVERYTHING she asks for. Dude should've just sucked it up and asked for a divorce.
