The Dogo Argentino, sometimes called the Argentinian Mastiff or the Argentine Dogo, is a strong, athletic, and loyal breed. Dogo is a large, white, muscular breed of dog that was developed in Argentina primarily for the purpose of big-game hunting, including wild boar.

In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Dogo Argentino that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Sporting Dogs
Weight: 80 to 100 pounds
Height: 23 to 27 inches
Life Expectancy: 9 to 15 years

The large, muscular Dogo Argentino was bred for strength and big-game hunting, especially for bringing down wild boars. Despite its capability for aggression when it comes to hunting, the Dogo Argentino generally has a happy disposition, and it is fiercely loyal to its human family. This breed's strength requires a firm, active trainer who is capable of keeping big dogs in line, and they need strict boundaries.

A tall, strong fence for the yard is a must, or else the Dogo Argentino's prey drive can lead them to chase small animals or wander. Socialization with other humans and pets is also key to keeping the Dogo Argentino's natural caution around strangers and other animals in check. Dogo Argentinos need to stay active, or they may become bored and prone to destructive behavior. They should not be left alone for long periods of time. With the right training and a good, loving home, the Dogo Argentino can make a courageous and dedicated family companion, as well as an excellent watchdog.

I also adopted my Dogo from a shelter. I had never heard of the dogo until my Rottweiler passed away and Iwas looking for a dog to fill the huge space my Rottweiler leftin my home and my heart. People constantly tell me what a good looking dog he is! He is powerful and intimidating but also extremely intelligent, which is good because I as a female like to hike alone in the jungles of Hawaii where we live. Feel totally safe with my Dogo, where without him I would be afraid to go. Needlesstosay, I have fallen in love with this breed.

I have an 11 month old dogo, she's by far one of the best and smartest dogs I've ever had. Loyal, fearless and above all kind to everyone. She is very protective but mindful of time and place. Constistant training and love has been the biggest factors to her temperament. She's currently being trained as a therapy dog for children with disabilitie as she has a natural love and understanding for children which was recognized at a young age. This video is spot on with the breed. They require a lot of work but worth every ounce of it.

Believe it or not, I just adopted a full-blooded Dogo Argentino from a SHELTER. Yes, you read that right. I have her papers and everything. It's a long story but I end up talking to someone who knew the owner. She was basically got as a puppy mill situation. The lady said the owner would hit them in front of her. They weren't allowed to even go outside to use the restroom. Not allowed toys or anything. Very sad situation. But since I have gotten here I was starting to train her and she is already fully trained. She does anything I ask her to do. She is loving and protective and clingy towards me. The only problem I have seen is I believe she is having aggression towards males which is understandable considering what she has been through. It's gonna take some time. But I feel like it was fate I have her now. She is AMAZING AND SOOOO SWEET :) And she now just carries around her toys all the time. She is very loved :)

We just got one a few weeks ago, and she's not all what we expected. We were expecting a high energy ball of fire and instead, got the most chilled dogo imaginable. We love her to death and she has bonded with our 4 year old daughter. Dogos ROCK!!!

I also just adopted a full blooded Dogo that was just dropped off along with her 4 other sisters by a breeder that went bankrupt in NYC. I live in South Ga so in her 6 months she has been farther than some people travel in their lives. I have a 1 1/2 ur old Male PitBull & they make a great cpl & play very well with each other. I don’t know what this girl has been thru but she will be a very happy furbaby for her entire life. She is such a loving & smart dog. I feel lucky/blessed or whatever u wanna call it to have her. Special Thanx to the well known Dogo Breeder in Waynesville Ga ( Chris Camp )

My grandson and I have an adult Dogo who after being diagnosed with diabetes insipidus was no longer welcome by his owner.
Eros is a joy. He is submissive with the other dogs in our family. He is gentle with me (65 year old woman) yet rambunctious and playful with my 21 year old grandson.
He does require that we know that we are the dominant being in his life.
Initially he tried to bark his way out of obedience but a mix of time outs and affection quickly ended the problem.
Eros is a gift. I do wish that people would stop assuming that every dog with a blocky head is a pit bull. I don't think that they make pit bulls as huge as Eros is, he is a gentle giant.

Mine died of cancer. This breed is the perfect personal companion, super loyal, very affectionate to the point of comedic. Smarter than a German shepherd. Their nails have to be constantly trimmed no matter how much they walk or sprint around. They love taking selfies and dressing up and love attention from the public. They are FIERCE guard dogs and I mean, they fear NOTHING .

My dogo is currently 10 months. We are blessed to have him. His chill, laid back personality is a bonus. He does well w/ all types of dogs & animals so far as well. They have a short coat but don't get it twisted, most dogos shed alot. Lol. The only thing that gets him on guard is if sees a stranger getting near us without any acknowledgement towards him first. I am looking for a different breed for my second dog but honestly can't help but keep looking back into another Dogo. They honestly are one of the best all around breeds out there. Only con is irresponsible Dogo owners.

My dogo, Casper, is currently 1 year and he is the sweetest boy ever! His parents had another litter and we got a blood brother (5 months now) who he loves so much! Hes very calm and protective. Both of my pups are great with my young kids (5&8), love to learn new tricks and to play all day long. They get bored easily, so make sure you can keep up with them! I would also recommend getting them a friend :)

I think I bought a dogo argentino from a random lady outside a store. My mom and I looked up similar puppy pictures and this was the closest one we got. She was named lucky because the owner said she came out blue but survived. I'm reading everything I can to learn how to train her properly, watching various videos and bought a well rated dog training book to make sure I train her to be a good dog.

Dexter is my 3-year-old Dogo. I have had Pitbulls for the last 30 years and decided to go with the Dogo this time and I am very happy with him. He is huge even for a Dogo at 29 inches at the shoulder and 135 pounds. He is very laid back, easy-going, and is friendly as long as everyone behaves. He was very easy to train, has excellent manners, and gets along with other dogs. The only thing that I didn't expect was that such a short-haired dog would shed so much. I don't know where it all comes from.

Mine never went after the cats, they're big cats themselves.
And they loved every visitor except for two, so we had to ban those two people from the house.
They're also fearless, will recognize danger or suspicious behaviour and will protect you with their life.
