Both are very nice representatives of their breeds. The GS male wants a date and the Dogo female isn’t feeling romantic yet. Neither want to fight, but neither will run from one. At the end of the day though, a big GS male is no match for a big male Dogo. The breeds used in the creation of the GS were predominately sheep-herding breeds, whereas the Dogo’s lineage is all about strength and fighting. The foundation for the Dogo was the Cordoba Fighting Dog, and to that they layered in the Great Dane, Spanish and Pyrenean Mastiffs, Bull Terrier, English Bulldog and Irish Wolfhound. A Dogo fights like a Pitbull on steroids. They don’t dodge and feint and use spin moves like that GS, instead they use their power to drive in, lock on with their incredibly powerful jaws, and then use their strength and leverage to drive their opponent to the ground, at which point they’ll improve their grip for the sole purpose of ending their opponent's life. All this is not to say that Dogos are great and GS’s are not. GS’s are extremely smart, brave and versatile…that’s why they’re used by law enforcement and the military. Dogo’s were bred to take down wild boars in Argentina. We’re talking about those big European wild boars that can weigh up to 300kg (over 600lbs). They’ve been known to kill mountain lions. They were bred for this. They are fearsome, and a big male GS is no match for a big male Dogo in a fight. But a Dogo is no match for a GS when it comes to the work that GS’s were bred to do which capitalizes on their intelligence, trainability and bravery. They’re both specialists, and the Dogo’s specialty is hunting and fighting large, aggressive and powerful game animals. Before anyone accuses me of glorifying the violent nature of Dogo’s though, let me just say that I’m not glorifying it…it’s just a fact. They are exactly what they were bred to be. I’ll be quick to point out though, that in spite of their potential to unleash lethal violence, Dogo’s make terrific pets and companions. Their temperaments are calm, confident and steady. They won’t come unhinged and run around the dog park mauling all the Yorkiepoo’s and Labradoodle’s. But if someone else’s dog becomes aggressive with them, they’ll quickly find they’ve bit off more than they can chew. Oh and one final point about the temperament of a Dogo, for some reason they absolutely love small children…not for breakfast of course!😆
