When dealing with a herd. Mark a horse and by all means try to only attack that horse. Other horses i believe should not be able to hit you unless you hit them first. (This is why you see many horse players rushing in and trying to provoke a saber to hit them. So then the horse is able to attack))
Causing them to be provoked. So if you wouldn't have just been slapping all the horses you wouldn't have died unless the horse you originally attacked then came after you, but with slapping them all they then were provoked to then attack you back (when not latched of course, since horses can't attack a predator while being latched)
