How to find halal stocks?

This video covers the method used by Rakaan Kayali and Practical Islamic Finance to ascertain their comfort level investing in a stock from a halal perspective.

To find Halal stocks, ask the question: which companies increase the amount of mercy there is in this world?

Then answer the following questions:

1- What products/services does the company sell to generate its revenue?

A good rule of thumb is no more than 5% of revenue should come from haram sources.

2- Does the company rely on interest (Riba) to operate?

Compare Interest Income to Total Revenue and Interest Expense to Total Operating Expense and aim for a ratio that is less than 5%.

3- What is the company’s ESG impact?
Look at the impact the company has on everyone and everything it comes into contact with. Whether this is the environment, suppliers, employees, customers or investors.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Probably the best hadith you’ll ever hear 💯

Aws bin Aws narrated:
Allah's Messenger said to me:
"Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday, and
bathes completely, and goes early,
arriving early, gets close and listens and
is silent, there will be for him in every
step he take the reward of a year of
fasting and standing (in prayer).

At-Tirmidhi (496)
*Sahih hadith*

In a previous video you made a point about how one should not be shy in sharing openly the stock he/she has purchased. Whether this would classify as another criteria or not, I think it's a(n excellent) point worth mentioning (again!). I appreciate how the ESG element may cater for this, but this could act as a further check and balance.

Mashallah brother Rakan, great job!
Which companies are bringing rahma to the world?
What products or services does the company generate for its revenue
Doss the company rely on interest to operate? (Use Rakan's gold standard)
What is the company's ESG?
Look at enviornment, suppliers, employees, at what cost does the product come?

No joke, would you be open to either teaching a course or a video walking through an example of determining if a stock is Halal?

Ramadan Kareem as well!

Thank you very much. But I have a question. When you talk about investing in companies that deal in riba (whether giving or taking), you mentioned the 5% rule, or the judgement call. I want to know the source from where this rule is derived, is it from a book or from any Islamic scholar? It is important to clarify this because Allah SWT says in the holy Quran "and do not help one another in sin and transgression" (Surah Maaidah). In light of this Ayah, even if the company is dealing in minimal riba, I am basically consenting to that action by holding shares in it, since the company acts on behalf of the shareholders.
I would be grateful if you could clarify this doubt. Thank you again

I have a question about the apps. Like Zoya. I checked few stocks that change from Sharia compliant to non compliant over time. How to deal with this change if we already bought these stocks and did not think to go and check the stocks again?

Is Starbucks halal? I’m considering it only if it’s halal, considering they’re at the 52 week lows and have a good business model.

How do you define or make a conclusion about any Crypto is Halal Or Haram?

Hello, always great to watch your videos. I would like to know your opinion on the shariah perspective of owning Chinese stocks at the moment given their weird structure, i.e since there’s a Variable interest entity (VIE) in which investors own shares in the profits rather than in the company itself due to Chinese restrictions on foreign ownership. Would appreciate your view, thanks

What to do with stocks, in my case alphabet stocks, if the stocks seems to be not according to Islamic rules? When I bought stocks from Alphabet, I didn't pay attention to the fact that the majority of revenues by ads can come from haram sources.
