Even though he won the case, he still lost in a way. He was arrested, his vehicle got towed, he had to hire an attorney, miss work, and spend time going to court. The cop on the other hand got paid the entire time. Justice with a price tag.

Cops should be required to refund drivers of their financial loss, due to their poor judgement.

It's sad there's no recourse for these unlawful arrest.

He won the court case, however, he had to pay for a lawyer, was arrested, paid fines and court cost, depending on the state he may have had his license suspended. Missed work, embarrassment of the situation, etc.

Judge shouldn’t have to compliment crooked cops just to overturn an arrest. We have given cops way too much power and respect for far too long. And that’s coming from an ex cop.

When this happens, the cop and his union should pay all court costs, the mans expenses, and compensate the accused for false arrest. Just another reason for Q.I. to be revoked.

The smile that was wiped off that cop's face is so infuriating. He's treating this like it's "oopsie haha we're all friends" and not fully grasping that he and he alone probably costed the citizen thousands of dollars and days, maybe weeks, of personal time. For the cop, it was just another day on the job while still getting paid. Love that the lawyer was not having it and shut him down

It's kind of funny how many of the police lack enough common sense. An officer tried to do this to me when I went out to my car to get my things before walking to a friend's house. My car was in a parking lot shared by a bar.

When there is a case involving an engineer, plumber, electrician, grocery store worker, pizza maker...and that person loses a court case, does this judge also tell them she appreciates the work they do?

Many states will charge you with a DUI if you are even asleep in the back seat and the keys are in the front seat not in the ignition. I knew a guy who got a DUI while loading his car with the engine running because it was cold outside and he was planning to have someone drive him home. He wasn't even in the car and they gave him a DUI. .

Until the vehicle is in drive or reverse and is moving you shouldn't ever be charged with a dui. And any cop who does needs fired.

I was at a party and a fight broke out. They threw EVERYBODY out. I was in no shape to drive and had no intentions to drive, but now I'm in a mess. this is the mid 80's so no cell phone. I got my keys out and put them in the trunk, then I got in the car on the passenger side. About an hour later a cop woke me up taping on the window with his flashlight. I told him I was waiting for someone to bring me another set of keys, he looked REALLY disappointed and went away. I spent the night in the car and pulled the trunk release the next morning.

When I was younger I spent many a times in my car passed out after a night of drinking before driving home. Glad that guy was able to beat the charges

Judge: I appreciate cops keeping our racket going, but we can't easily bleed this guy further.
