Former SAW gunner here. In the desert, I found It’s easier to actually keep the gun clean by keeping it dry. keep lube on you and lube the slides when you load it. The dust of the desert collects on the lube and makes a mess that will jam your gun. Especially when you’re riding air guard on a Stryker for instance. 240s were awesome because you could run them dry and they never complained 😅

It took me almost 6 months to get a new firing pin for my 249. The armorer kept saying there was nothing wrong with it as soon as I got a new firing pin, all problems went away who would’ve thought

Remember quality lubricants and cleaning products. I was a Saw gunner. I spent alot of time making sure my gun would work. Jeweler polished a few things slicked up any friction surface. Kept a can of Rem oil on me. Bought my own tools for it. Ran like a sewing machine

He's clearly new to the weapon and moving slow, but sometimes the saw just shits the bed. Carried one for 3 years and never had problems until the very end.

So. This is not a stoppage of fire in the fire step of the cycle of operations. The belt is not being fed. If the firing pin was damaged, and that was the only malfunction causing the stoppage of fire, then the belt would feed as normal in the cycle of operation, and the unfired cartridge would be fed, chambered, locked, unlocked and ejected during immediate action and clearing.
Some reasons for the stoppage of fire. The Feed pawl assembly could have missing or broken springs, or other issues with the feed pawl assembly, (however, this would normally only affect the following cartridge after the cycle of operation of the first fired round, unless the feed pawl assembly is so borked the bolt is just pushing the cartridge aside) or the bolt is not properly addressing the base of the cartridge for proper feeding, leaving the unfired cartridge in the belt on the feed tray. This can occur if the feed tray is not properly locked, or the bolt is damaged. Another possibility is that the first link is bent or twisted, causing it to press against the cartridge stop, offsetting the first round in the belt to be offset from the feed lane. Remedial action for this is to pop the first 3 rounds off the belt, throw them aggressively aside while uttering time honored gunner approved epithets. There could be other issues. In Desert Storm after a long firefight I pulled 8 unspent or expended cartridges from varying places of my receiver including 2 in the gas tube alongside the gas piston rod. Something like that could be blocking the bolt carrier from coming fully forward, but since the round isn't being mis chambered I would look for other weapon malfunctions.
I would place my bet on the bolt being misaligned on the bolt rails, slipped or displaced from the bolt carrier, or otherwise broken/malfunctioned to the point where it is no longer addressing the base of the cartridge. The camera doesn't look into the receiver to see the bolt, so I can't tell if that's the case.
Although, I would first look at the feed pawl assembly, the belt is ever so slightly being pushed out of the feed tray when the bolt comes forward, which means that the pawl that locks the belt in place is most likely borked.

At predepolyment training they decided that everyone would fire the 249, regardless of if you were qualified on it or would be carrying it, they wanted everyone to have a basic understanding of how to operate it. There were about 200 students and we had 10 guns and the cadre were saying it should only take an hour. Four hours later two of them were working and we had half the class that needed to shoot.
