Today I build the Verge's $2000 gaming PC and follow it exactly to prove its not a good idea. Today we build the PC following the Verge's PC build guide and it was a disaster.

Disclaimer: No hate intended, my purpose was to prove/disprove that this could be used to build a PC as intended and to raise awareness that this is not a safe build guide for the average person to use.

I don't build that many. I'm 33 and have done maybe 11 PC's in my lifetime. I've always described myself as a glorified hobbyist but that verge video makes me feel like a PHd level technician.

the pc didn't post because you short circuited the brick because use didn't have any insulating pads

Remember to apply the icing on the CPU evenly.

you installed the memory "wrong" he installs it in the first 2 channels rather than properly paired.

You also installed the PSU "wrong", he blocks the PSU fan

You connected your anti static bracelet, he just has a rubber bracelet around his wrist and it isn't connected to anything.

This guy claimed his build worked, but in the same sentence admitted that someone had to fix everything off camera

My guy, if you don't use a liquid cooler how can you use the wrong screws and potentially puncture your radiator showing how dangerous it is to use the long screws in the wrong way?

0:03 - my exact reaction when I saw the "ring method of applying thermal paste"

Also, why is there a Philips screwdriver on your table? Where is your Swiss Army knife, young man???

The graphics card "icon" used in the Verge video is of an AGP card. They have (or had) a slightly longer distance between the back plate and the connector, and are (or were) rarely much longer than depicted. The key of the connector implies AGP 1.0, the initial revision of the bus. (It went up to 3.0 before PCIe domination rendered the bus obsolete)

So, main takeaway from that part of the video: The Verge like using clipart from the 90s. There's no reason to assume they've created something like that themselves, so it would be interesting to know the source and copyright status of that image.

You still installed the RAM in dual channel when he installed it in single channel. Amazing.

The Verge was so proud of the build that they took a photo of the side of the PC and uploaded it on their website with all of those crappy cable management open for the world to see

The pain in his eyes when he had to apply thermal paste... Bro, I felt that

He's not the only one to blame, in-fact he's the one that should be most praised. TheVerge has a producer and director, as well as other people. Where's their blame? Yeah he needed shot down on building a PC, but not as much as the rest of

Where is your Allen key? I thought you had to have one....

I don't know if irony is the word, but when you said you were just gonna put in a couple of the screws to install the motherboard, that's exactly what he did, you can see at least 2 motherboard screws missing from his build at the end.
So you want to leave out screws to make it match.

Make sure to leave out 2 screws on psu,
And several screws from radiator (if using one)
And 1 screw from cpu cooler.

14:03 - And that was where I cringed the hardest during their build video... Not at the "brace, " aka I/O shield, not at the "rubber insulators" that keep the PSU case from "shorting out" on the tower case, but the thermal paste

This is the BEST reaction video I have seen. :-) Kudos for being able to do so much wrong deliberately in order to follow their instructional video!
