The most incredible dog I ever owned was a border collie. I knew nothing of training, but he instinctively worked sheep following my hand signals. Watching him cut out a yearling ram from the small flock of about 50 sheep so a buyer could look at him was simply unreal: how he knew which ram I wanted is beyond me. The buyer said to me, "To hell with the ram, what'll you take for the dog?" The dog was with me until he died years later: there are no words to describe him.

My 2 year old Border Collie Winston thoroughly enjoyed watching this video with his feet up on the table in front of the big screen. He tries flanking the sheep as they get close to the edge of the screen. I never see him as intent as he is when watching herding videos.

We had a pet Border Collie who was not trained, but she was so smart. We had a small horse boarding business and she was so good with the horses. We allowed her to have total freedom on our 7 acres to come and go as she pleased and every morning she walked the entire perimeter never leaving our property. I still miss her after almost 40 years.😢

what a perfect dog life, good health, purpose, room to run, friendship and love.❤❤ If only people would be satisfied with these gifts, what a better world 🌎. Thank you.

Herding dogs like this fascinate me…they are so knowledgeable, agile, and focused. I was in Montana a few years ago when a group of cowboys was driving a large herd of cattle to a new pasture….and we were stopped on the highway as the herd was in our path. The dogs on command jumped off of the vehicles they were on, and moved that entire herd up and across the highway, and into their new grassland. It was amazing to watch those dogs…. They knew exactly where to go, what to do, and got the job done quickly. One of the cow men was riding his horse up the line of traffic and apologizing to the motorists for their delay. I told him no apology was necessary, and thanked him for the terrific show that the dogs put on for us.

It’s always so fascinating to see how completely distinct each dog is. From Echos youthful energy and drive (albeit sometimes appears quite stubborn) to how Kate is clearly experienced and knows a ton of what to do and even, at times, seems to say, “ chill, Sean, I got this…”… to storms and how calm and eager to please she is…

Wow, Storm comes across as so experienced in comparison to Kate's exuberance. Storm is quite content to lay down while Kate is moving the sheep and she isn't needed, or to slow down when the sheep require it. Kate comes across as thrilled to be out there and eager to please. They make a great team- I love watching how they work together without getting in each other's way!

Absolutely exciting to watch true working dogs in action. Here in Australia there are too many of these dogs stuck in backyards not able to use their craft. I live in a rural area where I can see sheepdogs working cattle and sheep regularly. It raises up the hairs on my arms every time. Thank you for sharing your dogs, they are magnificent.

I had absolutely no idea how mesmerizing watching dogs herding sheep would be! It amazes me how one man and two dogs can maneuver a large number of sheep the way you do. Thank you for your channel. I’ve learned so much. I learned, along with how you tell the dogs what to do, that sheep run a lot! And that they follow each other, and get confused. It’s all just Wow! I love it all!

I was a first grade teacher and would have loved a Collie for getting the kiddos back inside when their outside time was over. 😆

My only real-life exposure to sheepdogs was in the 80’s in Germany watching a shepherd commanding his German Shepherds to move a flock that was grazing on the American post I was at. It was amazing. I get a little bit teary-eyed watching dogs do the work they were bred for and love. I’m thankful I saw it in real-life at least once. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory.

I just came upon this video. I love watching well trained border collies doing what they were born to do, herding animals. Your Kate and Storm are such well trained dogs and did a great job.

Border collies are just very simply, the best dogs in the world. It's been my privilege to have had 2 in my life some years ago. Loyal, smart, mischievous, nosy, loopy, brilliant, brilliant bundles of intelligent energy. Still missed to this day but watching these videos is just a joy!! Thank you.

there is something so cute about the little floppy bit of ear that bobs up and down on a border collie when it runs😍
