The 2025 Cupra Terramar could the model that puts the emerging Spanish car brand on the proverbial map in Australia. It's a mid-size SUV that's based on the next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan, although it attempts to add a sportier flair. Either way, it has all of the makings of a volume-seller for the new marque.

So, what exactly does the Terramar bring to the table aside from the obvious? Well, it brings the fight to the best-selling Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 with at least two powertrain options for the Australian market: likely a 195kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, and a 200kW plug-in hybrid that combines a 1.5-litre unit with an electric motor. The latter's 19.7kWh battery provides 100km of electric-only of driving range.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Tom White gets an early taste of the new Terramar at its international media launch in Spain.
