320 vs 235 Long EZ

Long EZ was recently swapped from 235 to a 320. I just so happen to have an older video of the plane with the 235 taking off from the same runway, similar temperature, similar fuel load, no passenger. It's not lined up to initial WOT on each, the left screen gets a little head start, but you can definitely tell the difference.

Wow very interresting video. Even thought start are not sync the take off distance and climb rate looks so much better. Here In france everyone is telling me to keep old engine but every forum or facebook groups says that O320 is so much better. I am about to buy a stored longez that have been sitting for 6 years at least. I was thinking about changing to an O320 in the process of putting it back together. I saw you said that cowling are almost the same which is a good plus. I was wondering did you keep the same engine mount or not ? My plan is to buy a conical O320 and use it on the O235 conical mount but i cant find the info if they are similar. I want to use electronic ignition to try to compensate for the extra weight of the O320 as well as vaccum pump alternator.

Thank you for sharing this video ! Question from a beginner please : did your o-320 fit inside the cowlings or was it necessary to rebuild them ?

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I knew there was a difference but I did not know it was so great between the two engines.

Is there any huge difference in cruise speed?

with out an RPM guage it' doesn't really tell us as much. even at taxi the 320 was faster which likely has nothing to do with the engine at 7 mph. i'm not saying there was no difference, i'm saying that as the throttle was opened, the 320 was already at 22 and the 235 was at 11. but with 50% more displacement we can expect a significant difference. what no one talks about is the difference in fuel usage. it is very impressive at the difference in take off distance though.
