I had a few requests to modify my single oil shea butter soap recipe to try and add a bit of lather. So I made this new unscented soap using 60% shea butter along with a few other oils & butters.

🟥 DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. The content I create is intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can permanently damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear during the entire soapmaking process, even while cleaning up. I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining. However, due to all the many variables that can affect a particular batch of soap, if you do try any of my methods or techniques that I use in my videos, I cannot be held liable or responsible for your results.

Hi everyone! I think when I make this soap again (high shea butter is my dry skin's favorite), I may try using 90% shea butter and 10% coconut oil (since the coconut oil was the only real lather producer I added). I included the olive oil just to have a liquid oil in the mix, and the cocoa butter was added for hardness (and because I really like it in soap).

I was asked by a couple of people if the shea butter scent lingered in the soap. I mentioned this in the video, but, even after 9 weeks, I can still smell the shea butter. If you were going to add a fragrance, it might interfere with the scent somewhat. I did use unrefined shea butter, though. Oh, one more thing, I don't detect any cocoa butter scent after the cure, in case you're wondering about that.

Hope you're all doing well! -Holly :)

Thank you so much for leaving your recipes. Other soapmakers do not do this, and it helps us new soapers soooo much. Love your soaps, and the music.

I just did this soap - but bumped the Shea to 65% instead of 60%. I also added lavender EO. It’s in my oven now, can’t wait to unmold tomorrow 😊

I have been using shea butter in my soaps since 2001. I currently make a palm free recipe with shea butter and I love it. It has such a wonderful, creamy lather. I am not missing the palm at all.

I have not tried a soap with any type of butter over 60% in the recipe. It looks super creamy and luxurious! I have been a big fan of your videos since I have discovered your channel! Love everything you do!

What does soap making do to the quality of butters. Does it make sense to add unrefined butters instead of refined butters, or butters other than your Shea Butter base?, i.e. Cupuacu, kokum or other oils. Does the lye process cancel out all of the qualities of butters and oils?

I tried this - thank you very much. I live in Guatemala with my husband. We are missionaries. I brought some Shea butter back from our latest visit to the states. It is an excellent soap for my rough hands. Again thank you very much.

Hi, thank you for this. Would love to make it but would like to add some fragrance oil. Could I just add some? And how much please? Or would it affect the whole recipe? Thank you ❤
