How to install the microphone for your Bluetooth car stereo | Crutchfield

If your Bluetooth-equipped car stereo came with an external microphone, you need to find a spot for it in your car when you install your receiver.

Installing an external Bluetooth mic is a straightforward process, but it does vary from vehicle to vehicle. You'll want to find a location directly in front of you so the mic can easily pick up your voice while your eyes are on the road.

An external mic provides the best possible call quality, and in cars equipped with a voice assistant it'll make it easier for Siri or Google Assistant to hear your commands.

Check out a typical external Bluetooth mic installation - and get some tips - in this video.

Good video. Yours is the only one of three I watched that actually shows where the cable end plugs in. I'd say that's an important detail.

Thanks. I too went with the microphone near the center lamp panel but then lay the cable through the A pillar on the passenger side and behind the glove compartment to the radio.

Hey, nicely done. Just finished my install today (Jensen CAR813) and...so far so good. I guess I still have a few things to do, but I think it's clear sailing from here.

I'm not sure what kind of mic ships with this deck, but I wonder if there are other great mics that work with my system. The point of this comment isn't really my question, but to thank you for videos like this that make it SO much easier for DIYers. Have a great day!

I’ve had several cars with aftermarket radios. I’ve never had luck in people hearing me in the mic. Is there a powered option so the mic can better get my voice ? The cabin isn’t loud at all

Is possible to mount the mic somewhere and cover it to make it look more oem, with a mic grill/cover etc? Having a mic stick out is ugly.

I like the vid very helpful. I would have gone passenger side with the wire direction to avoid all the junk under driver side.

I can feel road vibration on the headliner trim panel. Will that interfere with the microphone picking up the sound ?

I have a 2010 Ford explorer that previously used sync. I swapped the radio for a Pioneer indash and connected the microphone that came with it. The issue I’m having is that callers can’t hear but I can hear them. Any suggestions?

I am about to install a mic just like this but this raise a concern. Does this interfere with the airbag? I'm not trying to make my airbag a claymore...

Does anyone know why I can't hear caller through my car speakers? I can hear them but the volume is too low, tried everything, the mic is internal and I have an Android head unit, everything works flawlessly except that the volume from BT calls through car speakers is too low. Do I need to put an external mic for it to be better?
