George Lucas Reveals Obi-Wan Was MORE Powerful Than Vader in A New Hope

In Star Wars we know Vader is extremely powerful in the force. However, you might be surprised that George Lucas himself, says that Vader wasn't as strong as Obi-Wan during their duel in A New Hope.

It is important to note that this is a OUTDATED ideal. Mentioned in the early days of Star Wars, long before the whole Chosen One thing and the 20% less powerful than the Emperor statement made when Lucas had things more fleshed out. I've seen people online take this quote from George out of context to act like old Ben was twice as strong as Vader, which would mean Kenobi was stronger than Palpatine which is just ridiculous.

I've always preferred the idea that Darth Vader was simply being more cautious around Obi Wan since in their last fight, embracing his rage blindly caused his defeat

I just always imagined Vader wasn’t confident he could defeat his master, even before the prequels existed. Thats why they seemed to only poke each other and Vader kicks Obi-Wan’s cloak in confusion, since he was aiming for the lightsaber.
