On character shading, you can duplicate the lineart and use the bucket tool on the bottom layer. The top lineart will maintain the proper lines and you skip the tedious coloring stage. (Remember to go over any white areas missed by the bucket tool)

For the pencil shading, it really depends what type of style you have, ‘cuz you can have a bit of a more cartoony shadow, doesn’t have to be a blurred shadow.

Edit: Thank you guys for so many likes!!

Lol as someone who's made animations on flipaclip for 5 years, videos like this never existed. I appreciate you taking the time to edit this video to show new animators how to create things in flipaclip! If I was new to flipaclip, this tutorial would've helped me a ton. (There is a wrong way to animate) for the longest time I struggled with making things look natural. So i appreciated you creating this video for others.
(Heck this thing would still help me today. Ima save this to one of my playlists)

- side note, never thought of using the grid for things like that! Thanks for the tip! This tutorial also helps people that use flipaclip for more advanced things.

(Edit) OMG THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I GOT 1K LIKES? TYSM!

I don't really need grid for the correct movement, i use zoom and then calcule if the pixels only changed on X but not on Y, btw cool video

They need to make a feature for FlipaClip where you can select and copy multiple frames because anything that requires walking is a pain in the butt to animate because you can’t reuse walk cycles without copying and pasting each individual frame.

I’ve had flip a clip for 4 years and this has made all my animations 10X better

For the bouncing ball, try stretching it left and right when you squash it down as you need to keep the same area for objects.

I’m not a beginner but I’ll still watch

For the colour filler one

as someone who also uses flipaclip
I make a second layer above, and put a paste of the lineart over the one with colour
it makes the colours look more natural where the colour fill meets another colour

kk, i have a solution if you dont have much layers left to use, and have to use one.
1. do lineart
2. copy the lineart with the copy button near the undo, redo and paste buttons
3. do the colors
4. paste the lineart
the copy button is RIGHT beside the ruler, and the paste button is RIGHT beside the undo button.
Try not to copy anything else after copying the lineart.

Hope this helped.

not only all the shading tips are good but i want to give a tip of my own: when ever your shading do NOT use just a darker color it can kind of make it look cheap. what you want to do it make the color a bit of a dark blue try to keep the same color just be sure to make a darker and more "blue-ish" version that really helps when shading. and if they are in the dark use a darker blue-ish color but yeah. 👍

Rating these tips with 5 years of experience on flipaclip

1 . You don’t NEED grid. Especially for the animation they did

2 . It depends what kind of look you’re going for

3 . It’s an okay shading tip, but again it depends what you’re going for

4 . The colors thing is just a preference, I don’t personally do it but I have some friends that do

5 . Yes! I use this all the time definitely recommend!

Great video! For me personally when I fill in colors and don't want that ugly "seeing the background thing" I use the bucket on the outlines to make the outlines thicker and darker. And when I do shading I add a fram in front and color the shaded areas in with the pen with the help of the onion, then I use the eraser to make it transparent then I copy the frame and paste it over the original.

I don’t really like to animate, even on FlipaClip, this is still a cool video tho! But one thing I wish they would add is you being able to paint inside the lines even on a different layer instead of having to do it manually

For 1:40 technically you can also use paintbrush i think, but I understand the use of the eraser. It just adds more layers to the project, and when you’re working with only 3 layers that’s sort of hard y’know.

So I use flipaclip for my channel (and have been for the past 6 months) and I never realized to do some of this stuff! Thank you so much, this is really useful!

That shading tip is also useful for digital art in general.

Even though I’ve been using flipaclip for 2 years now, so I’m technically not a beginner, I still learnt a fair bit about the app’s features. Thanks for making this!
