John MacArthur’s Views on Separation

The MacArthur Centre for Expository Preaching Podcast had an episode on theological triage that sounded more like a call for separation than for theological clarity. Separation being one of the key identifying marks of fundamentalism, does this finally prove John MacArthur is a fundamentalist? I think so.

Also Ask me anything. Come hang out.

59:20 yep that’s exactly right - fundamentalism is where nuance goes to die.
A few years back a wise older woman in my life suggested I read Finding the Right Hills to Die On by Gavin Ortlund as I was leaving a GCC “sister church” in TX and it helped me understand so much about theological triage (and not the fundy definition).
The Bible is also “clear” on striving for unity where possible isn’t it? Eph 4:3-6 🤷🏻‍♀️
Anyway - I really appreciate these podcasts and enjoy the thoughtful discussion.

This is why I appreciate your channel, Dean. These guys are not on my radar, but what they're putting out there has a big affect on Christians, and it helps me to hear about it. Thanks for slogging through their content on our behalf!

One of my friends quit being a youth leader because of the horrible treatment she got from parents and one of the students who kept talking about John MacArthur and saying she was rebellious and going to hell. She even said she believes the role of head pastor is reserved for a man, but that didn't matter. I've seen a lot more of the fundamentalist attitudes as of late. I felt bad too because they told me that they left the group because of a difference of theology so I said I respected their decisions. I didn't know about all the horrible stuff they said because they didn't say it to me.

Thanks for leaving the live chat commentary up. I love that there are other egalitarians among the Underdogs. Also, so many gracious and thoughtful complementarians!

If the Bible were as clear as many hold it to be, seminaries would be pointless, as would most Bible study.

Former Masters College student here and it's crazy how many students just kept their mouths shut about their doctrinal differences and disagreements with the rigid statements from MacArthur and the school. Can't say I didn't appreciate the biblical foundation the school gave me but for sure it was clear they weren't very doctrinally inclusive.

Can you recommend a good book on complementarianism?

That's well said Dean. I'm proud to subscribe to you as an egalitarian feminist progressive Christian.

If your going to eat meat your going to have to learn how to spit out some bones. If you don't there's really nothing wrong with the meat but with you being unable to handle the bones. Johny Mac is a guy who likes to serve his guests meat. If bones are uncomfortable for you there are lots of vegetarian dishes out there 😏

Theological triage sounds like theological espionage, which sounds like it's associated with the theological dark web
