My 8-bit computer PCB!

I got around to making an 8 bit computer PCB based on ben eater's designs. I had to change up a few things since some of the chips were outdated. I also forgot to make a connection when routing but, luckily it was easily fixable without needing to re order a whole new PCB. All I had to do was solder a wire between two connection on the backside of the PCB. Right now its running a program to count by 3.

awesome! Im building the Ben Eater computer myself (with his kit). Halfway through the ALU right now. So cool to see it hooked up on a PCB like that. Nice!

I remember about 1981 or so, we had about 8 people on the team and my job was writing the user interface for a million dollar microfilm machine. We had Z80 computers with CP/M, and bought an add-in board that was loaded with LEDs. We could then see the instruction pointer, RAM loading and other stuff. When extra LEDs flashed in places we didn’t expect, we could realize code was being executed when it wasn’t supposed to be. We could then breakpoint the code to find and fix issues very easily.
Wish we could have that sort of thing now…

Looks like a BAD crime scene where cops, fire-trucks and ambulances have converged.

Wow, that looks amazing! I love how the blinkenlights look on the black PCB. Good job! I'll have to see if you have another video with more details about it. 🙂 I've been meaning to watch Ben Eater's series on making this (breadboard) computer, and this is a good reminder to do that as well. ;-)

As a nerd this is mouth watering! You should make a similar z80 system

Does learning how to build this. also equip one with skill to build just about or any electronics hardware? E.g. fm radio, washing machine etc (Disregarding the mechanical feature of some electronics)

I know that what I'm about to say is somewhat crazy but, have you ever thought bulding it using only transistors? Monster6502 is a proof of concept. I would love to buy one already assembled.

This is great... can you share your schematics and layouts? Thanks!

Just so you know guys, this is Ben Eater’s design so don’t think this is his original design. This is still very interesting though!

When you realise that all this thing does is increment a number by 3.

Hey, i am trying to built your design and i am getting no Voltage readings when i hook up the pcb with USB B port. I am using a phone power adaptor just like ben eater. Any ideas?
