Gosh, I hadn’t even thought about the sink cabinet. It’s always been the scary dark lair of cleaning supplies.

Thank you for piling on more to think about renovation. This kitchen remodel will never end………………………….

Aloha Mark ! Great tips. Over 12 years ago when we built our home, we bought an under sink water alarm detector which beeps every time water is detected and it was awesome ! Would catch even a drop of water. Finally ordered our kitchen cabinets a few days ago and can’t wait to have our new 48 inch sink base with a 45 inch single workstation sink ! Thank you for all your awesome videos and it’s the best kitchen channel on YouTube ! I used all your videos to design our kitchen and felt so confident sitting with a kitchen designer afterwards prior to ordering our kitchen cabinets.

The challenge is that mine is a corner sink cabinet that holds a D-shaped sink (straight side of the sink faces the wall, while the rounded side of the sink faces the front). I found no mats in the market for a corner sink cabinets. All the mats are rectangular. I've bought a rectangular mat that covers most of the front, but the back corner of the cabinet remains unprotected.

The problem I see with having pull outs under a sink is accessiblity if there is a plumbing problem. All that hardware would be in the way. I have a couple of Rubbermaid dish tubs for my cleaning supplies that can just be pulled completely out of the cabinet if necessary. I really like the idea of having the plumbing to one side to free up space on the other. Great video and great ideas. Thanks Mark!

6:45 working with your plumber on a rebuild like I'm facing could put all the essentials (disposal, hot water tap, drains for the double-bowl, dishwasher connections) in one end and free up the space on the other side.

I have been using a WeatherTech kitchen cabinet mat that can catch drips and spills, is removable and washable. It has a good lip all the way around to keep the drips contained. And add a water alarm as noted in the other comments and you have better peace of mind.

Not fan of trash bin under sink, .. everyone annoying the person at the sink working, to move so they can access the trash, .. will cause me to use the pullout water sprayer on that person.

Excellent tips. Watching this I am rather proud of my little 60-cm-wide IKEA sink cabinet, LOL! I keep my (closed) compost bin under there, then I have bins that hold some cleaning products, dishwasher powder, rubber gloves and extra sponges and that is it. I already have a single-bowl sink with an offset drain. The whole thing pulls out. But I will definitely add a liner when I renovate my bottom cabinets next year.

I have a tilt-down in place of a false fromt on my sink cabimet. It is excelent. I would only do the single long tray in either aluminum or stainless. Plastic is a bad coice. It warpds and moisture dries slowly.Dirt tends to penetrste the material and makes it hard to clean. Without it space is wasted and sponges, brushes scrubbers, etc pile up in a soggy pile in the bottom of the sink. Need a flat bottom to the tray (no V bottom) to meke wiping out easier.

I have to say you have given me so many great ideas for my kitchen redo, thank you so much. I will have a double sink so the idea of switching the drain is great. If my kitchen ever gets here (supposed to be here before Thanksgiving now we are looking at 1/16/23
Have a great New Year!

I've got something to freak you out - I'm putting my sink in my corner in my upcoming reno! I don't love it, but it's a small awkward space and it's the best I can do with what I have. At least I'm combining an annoying corner cabinet with an annoying sink cabinet instead of having one of each! It does allow the rest of the lower cabinet space to be extremely functional.

I originally wanted to have an offset single basin sink, but I only found one manufacturer who didn't have the usual bad reviews about drainage issues (and his sinks are custom made - starts at $8, 000 for 25"). Those offset drain sinks are primarily in square sinks that, on the whole (talking thousands of reviews regardless of brand that are saying the same thing), aren't properly constructed. That's creating mold and germ issues that you'll have to contend with.

My biggest problem with my sink cabinet is the plumbing The main plumbing comes up through the floor. When I did my kitchen refresh, bought sink cabinet with liner build in. Forgot all about the plumbing. Hole had to be cut for the plumbing which totally defeated the cabinet with build in liner. So, I wasted money getting that particular cabinet. My other screw up with the refresh is I moved the garbage disposal from the left bowl to the right bowl which definitely decreased my usable space in the cabinet. That being said, I use containers, etc. to organize everything that I keep in the sink cabinet.

In addition to the sink mat I am planning to add a dishwasher mat.

I’m doing a single basin, right drain sink for my reno to try to maximize the space. Also going over size, a 36” cab for a 24-27” sink to try to maximize left side counter space as it is next to a fridge. What I am wondering is how you use a sink cabinet mat AND pull outs (I am hoping to fit trash on the left side with a revashelf or other pullout, which is installed where the mat would go.)

Under sink cabinet isn't something I thought about eventhough I hate going under there myself. I use that area for my recycling bin..

Hard pass for me on the curtain in place of doors below the sink 😂

Hi Mark, I have a double-bowl, dunh, dunh, dunh Corner sink and there could definitely be a better place for us to have placed it than there. Every time my poor husband has to get at the plumbing (to replace a faucet, tankless water heater or garbage disposal, etc.), his back is in agony, even with pillows. Not a lot of space in there, even removing the doors. Won't be n the next house, I can testify! But, I have a couple of wire shelves, and bins to hold all of that undersink stuff, so it's still easy to get to or pull out of the cave.
