My family has been in America for 150 years, but we all came from northern europe. So when we're ready to break something off, we will straighten our backs, take a deep breath and say...."well"

In Finland we ask "At what time, you would be at home, if you leave now?" 😂

Many countries have those expressions where physical moves and gestures substitute words, very standardized and used by many people.

In Italy they stay the night, our kids do not go to school and we lose our temporary job contract.

In Asian and south Asian and middle eastern countries, there 4 talks before people leave. The standing up conversation. The conversation a few feet from where they were standing. The conversation at the door. And the conversation by the cars.

In Sweden we don't invite other people so we don't have that problem.

At bars (@ closing time ) in the South after last call they say "You don't have to go Home, but you can't stay here"!😂

Same energy as the Midwestern "Whelp", with knee slap of course

It takes my Italian husband a good hour to leave a family event. There is endless hugs, more stories, and loads of food being shoved at him.

I love that. No awkward talk, just get up and everyone goes home. Perfect 👌

In Jamiaca we say "gwome" or gwaan a yuh yaad" simply meaning Go home!😂😂

In Ireland, we just vanish without saying anything to our guests and friends. It's called an Irish Goodbye.

In the UK we slap our legs and say "Right, I'm off" 😂

In Britain we do the same thigh slap and say "Right!". Or sometimes we say "Well, I won't keep you."

As a Dane, it's so irritating when your guests won't fuck off

I just stop conversation, look at my watch, start tidying up! ❤😂😂😂😂

In Turkey we say: "it's getting late, the kids need to sleep. I have a presentation early in the morning" hinting they need to get out

We Swedes don’t got that problem since we don’t talk to each other

In Latin and Mediterranean countries:
"Oh, do you have to go so soon? It's early! Stay a while longer. Can I offer you something else? Are you sure you have to go? Come on, stay... Ok, well then, then take this plate of food/dessert with you. Don't worry about the plate, you can bring it next time!" And conversation carries on at the door another half hour before a profusely affectionate and joyful farewell with plans to get together again soon.

It's in contrasts like these that you have to thank God for cultural diversity!
